Echuca – Sunday, 5 April 2026

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: MOMENTUM SHIFT (11) has been flying despite no luck with barrier draws and racing in tough company. He has a tough draw again over the short trip here but is a placegetter at this track when most unlucky from a similar draw. His metropolitan sectionals are good enough to win this.
SPORTS NARRATOR (2) may have a look for the lead here, and if he finds the top over the short trip will take some running down. WITH IN REASON (9) is one of the most honest horses racing in the region, and although perceived as better over the longer trips due to his toughness, did win over the mile in quick time last start. LILSTREPO (12) was beaten a long way last start but was a victim of circumstances; her prior form was very good.

BACK: MOMENTUM SHIFT (11) – 1 unit (win)

SELECTIONS: MOMENTUM SHIFT (11), SPORTS NARRATOR (2), WITH IN REASON (9), LILSTREPO (12)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: ALCATRAZ GIRL (5) is a very quick beginner suited by this track and trip. Her recent effort was sound when trying to lead all the way and she was a winner in decent time when finding the top four runs ago.
ROYLE BLOOD (2) is having her second run back with her former stable where she was knocking up victories, so can improve on her last start effort. POLLY PEACHUM (10) was very well supported during the week when fourth; she goes to the back row here but Herbertson sticks. OUR MYSTERY BET (8) has been racing in consistent form, and the nice trailing draw gives him a chance to come with one run.

SELECTIONS: ALCATRAZ GIRL (5), ROYLE BLOOD (2), POLLY PEACHUM (10), OUR MYSTERY BET (8)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: EAGLE MAJOR (1) is not noted for being a quick beginner, but if he can hold the stablemates back from the pole, he becomes the one to beat. His closing sectionals lately from bad set-ups have been good, and this looks a suitable assignment.
MUSSEL SHOALS (2) is that stablemate and loves the Echuca track, being a very quick beginner who seems destined to lead from the favourable draw. She was very good last start narrowly going down; the only concern is her final 100 metres over the middle trip. COVERED IN GOLD (8) gives away experience, but in two runs back with his former stable has shown he’s going ok; he had excuses last time. NORTHERN TERROR (3) can slipstream across from this draw and get a good run; he was a decent winner last time out. BACK: EAGLE MAJOR (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: EAGLE MAJOR (1), MUSSEL SHOALS (2), COVERED IN GOLD (8), NORTHERN TERROR (3)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: JESSICAS STORY (3) is trending back towards the winners list with some solid efforts this season. She has enough gate speed to race in a forward position and brings slightly different form to appeal against this line-up.
VAN DOREN (8) returns to mobile conditions after disappointing last time out. His form prior was ok, including a run-on win five runs back. JILLIBY TOPGUN (5) has put in improved performances this season and is a little more reliable; he just doesn’t win out of turn. PATNWILL (7) beat most of these last time at Kilmore but goes from the front row, where he was able to lead, to an awkward back row draw.

SELECTIONS: JESSICAS STORY (3), VAN DOREN (8), JILLIBY TOPGUN (5), PATNWILL (7)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: REIGN EM IN (1) gets his most suitable set-up in some time here to show his early gate speed and be suited on the tighter track over the short trip. He narrowly went down in quick time when leading three runs back and a repeat is good enough to get the job done.
HELLOVATIME (3) has been racing well his past couple back with the former stable and gets a good draw to map close to the speed and be a threat late. LINE DANCE (7) can be a bold improver on recent numerical form, looking to get the right run behind the speed and, down in class, is first up with a soft trial since January. KUALIGHT (4) may find this slightly harder than her past two wins, but she needs to be respected.

BACK: REIGN EM IN (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: REIGN EM IN (1), HELLOVATIME (3), LINE DANCE (7); KUALIGHT (4)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: RASTAMON (1) can be a big improver here from the inside draw as all of his wins have come when he’s able to find the front without too much fuss. He ran home well enough last time to give confidence a better position will see an improved finish.
MANDA KYVALLEY (6) is a mare who loves to race tough up on speed and delivered one of her better performances beating some of these last time out at Maryborough. JUST A JOURNEY (7) creates interest being first up here off a trial win and was a winner last prep; she just lacks the maturity of her opposition. MIDNIGHT MUSCLE (8) got it wrong last time, but his form prior was solid and will be in the mix if he brings his manners.

SELECTIONS: RASTAMON (1), MANDA KYVALLEY (6), JUST A JOURNEY (7), MIDNIGHT MUSCLE (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: SON OF A BROAD (5) turned in his best performance for the new stable over the long trip last time, doing work and only narrowly going down. He can press forward from this draw, and a repeat of his effort last time can be good enough.
PEARL OF PHILTRA (6) is a 3yo filly who’s trialled well into this, has a tricky draw to overcome but seems to have ability to keep safe. MAJOR EASTWOOD (2) was going to have a say in the lead on debut before pacing roughly at various stages; if he can improve his manners off that experience will go close. LOWER WEST SIDE (9) promised to do something last prep off solid trials; the ability is there but may need this run.

BACK: SON OF A BROAD (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: SON OF A BROAD (5), PEARL OF PHILTRA (6), MAJOR EASTWOOD (2), LOWER WEST SIDE (9)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: MY GREAT EIGHT (7) finds his race here, after being well supported on resuming two back when narrowly beaten and was pressured most of the race in good time when attempting to lead all the way last start. This presents as a suitable race to get back on the winners list.
PARISIAN BANDIT (8) beat him home in that same race, but different circumstances were at play. He does, however, appear the main danger based on that outing. TASTE IT (5) can show speed and at worst get good cover to improve on her recent form. ATOMIC GLORY (6) also flies the arm and runs his best races from the top spot, but he does need to improve.

BACK: MY GREAT EIGHT (7) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: MY GREAT EIGHT (7), PARISIAN BANDIT (8), TASTE IT (5), ATOMIC GLORY (6)
