Four-year-old mare Judysmemum will aim for her third win from as many starts when she lines up in the second heat of the Westwood Quarry Trainers Incentive (2150m) on a massive 11-race card at Carrick Park on Sunday afternoon.
Judysmemum will be venturing away from the north-west coast for the first time in her career, having raced and trialled only at the Burnie track.
The Craig Hayes-trained mare has been driven by Gareth Rattray in both her wins to date, including a 19.7m win on 12 December, and then again on 26 December when winning by 6.3m.
“She has surprised me, as she is an ordinary track worker at home, but I thought she could win a race. But her first run really surprised me,” said Hayes.
That first win, she raced outside the leader, with the mile rate only 1.4s outside the track record.
“I didn’t think she could run that, so I clocked it off the tv when I got home, as she has never worked anything like that.
“She works by herself most of the time, she will work good with another horse, which I don’t get much of a chance to do,” said the trainer.
Judysmemum has drawn barrier three for Sunday’s assignment, with regular driver Gareth Rattray to take the drive.
“It is a bit stronger race than what she has been in, the horses she is racing are horses that have raced against better class horses than she has, that is always a bit of a wait and see as to how she measures up with those, but I think she will be very competitive, that’s for sure.”
The Westwood Quarry Trainers Incentive will be held at Carrick Park on 22 February.
Sunday’s 11-race card also features the Halwes Free For All, where last year’s winner, and track record holder, Magnetic Terror, will start from the outside of the second row in the 1670m event.
The first race is scheduled for 13:53, with the first seven races shown on Sky Racing 2 and races eight to 11 on Sky Racing 1.
