Last Tuesday afternoon will be one to remember for 16-year-old Jorja Daskalovski after she scored her maiden race victory at Tabcorp Park Menangle aboard veteran trotter Sunny Gee at only her sixth race drive.

Leading throughout, the KerryAnn Morris-trained trotter carved out a solid 1:54.7 over the mile trip.

Born and raised in the Hunter Valley, Daskalovski is yet another graduate of the New South Wales Mini Trotting Association and made a big decision to leave home at a tender age in the hope that she could set a path to fulfil her dream to become a full-time reinswoman.

“It is very exciting,” said Daskalovski.

“It feels like it has been a very long wait for me to start driving, but to secure my first winner from just a handful of drives is just an unreal feeling.

“Moving from home and my Mum and Dad being so far away especially at such a young age was certainly a big decision to make.

“But I was aware that if I was to live out my dream to become a full-time driver I would need to be in Sydney and Kerry and Robbie have been the best people to learn from, I really appreciate the opportunities they have afforded me so far.

“Mum and Dad made the trip down to visit me which was timely as they were on track to witness my first win, which made it all the more special.”
