Veteran trainer Wayne Waltisbuhl thinks Jacks Fyre can deliver his small stable back-to-back victories for the first time in several years at Redcliffe on Wednesday evening.
The bay gelding was able to score over 1780 metres at ‘The Triangle’ last Thursday with Adam Richardson driving him to an almost four metre triumph.
Jacks Fyre returns to Redcliffe Peninsula Harness Racing and Sporting Club on Wednesday and steps up to 2040 metres.
The 68-year-old Waltisbuhl has been through a long journey to get Jacks Fyre fit and firing at the races, but he seems to have found his niche this season.
In 17 efforts in 2025, he has won twice and been placed on five more occasions.
The two victories have been the Sandy Creek-based conditioner's first since the 2021 campaign.
“I have this thing about pacers, I love it,” Waltisbuhl said.
“I love to see what I can create with a horse and what ends up happening.”
Last week, the 36-year-old Richardson fired Jacks Fyre to the front of the field in the early exchanges after commencing from a front row draw.
Veteran horseman Waltisbuhl has been keen to see his six-year-old go forward in his races and was thrilled when Richardson was able to hold the front through and score.
“I told him to launch last week,” Waltisbuhl said of his conversation with Richardson pre-race.
Jacks Fyre’s other victory this year came at Redcliffe back in late March when youngster Jack Chapple guided him out of maiden grade.
Waltisbuhl – who drove in races earlier in his career in the harness game – believes there is more to come from the son of Major Bronski.
“He is not an easy horse to drive,” Waltisbuhl said.
“This horse is no Leap To Fame but he is a handy, nice and strong horse.
“I expect him to give this race a real shake on Wednesday as he does not surrender.
“He is only going to get better and better this horse. He does have some ability.”
Waltisbuhl encourages his drivers to talk to Jacks Fyre to keep him comfortable in the run and during the pre-race process.
In a small field of six, Richardson will start from the two on the front row with Maywyns Mighty Mac one of the other major contenders in the staying event.
Waltisbuhl enjoyed success with horses such as Rorschach and Go Atom earlier in his career, with the duo combining to win 17 races.
