HE'S arguably the best trotter in the state, yet at Globe Derby tomorrow night, Doff Your Cap may struggle to win.
Transferred to leading trainer Ryan Hryhorec last month, Doff Your Cap was third during his South Australian debut before winning his last three starts.
Those victories are the reason behind the gelding's woes this weekend.
As a result of his dominating form Doff Your Cap has been pushed back to a 40-metre handicap over the mid distance journey of 2230 metres.
"Saturday will be pretty hard," Hryhorec said. "I wasn't going to run him, but that would mean it is three weeks between runs, because that's the next mobile for him.
"If you don't run whenever you're not happy with the handicaps, you won't run!
"You can't keep winning and expect not to go back, but it makes it harder and catches up with them pretty quickly.
"If it was over 2645 metres it wouldn't be as much of a problem, but the short trip could bring him undone."
Despite the obvious concern, Hryhorec remains quietly confident Doff Your Cap can continue his winning streak.
"He is flying and is going to be hard to beat again," Hryhorec said. "It's going to come down to how the race is run and what kind of run Dani (Hill, driver) can get."
Hryhorec will also be represented by Phoebe Onyx, which he will partner from the 10-metre mark.
"Onyx is going terrific," Hryhorec said. "He is so honest and always around the mark...he'll run a good race."
