Buyers wanting to buy from a family that gets 2-year-old trotters up and running early could look no further than Lot 48 at the APG 2025 Online Autumn Mixed Sale running from May 23-25. The trotter in question is a brown Majestic Son mare named Courtesy Chancery.
The stunning 10-year-old, who is currently in foal to Pastor Stephen, has left three fillies aged four, one, and a weanling born on November 24 last year. Her first foal, a daughter of Father Patrick filly named, Cadence Lane, has so far won five races and placed seven times, while her two other un-named Father Patrick and King Of The North fillies are yet to race.
Courtesy Chancery is out of the 1995 Torado Hanover - Streets Of London mare, Chancery Lane, who won 11 races.
"Our family goes back four generations," said co-breeder Grahame Searle. Vali Hall and I bought Streets Of London (Caroldon Lehigh - Carla Hanover) at the Yearling sales in the mid-1980s.
"Her mother (Caroldon Lehigh) has left six 2-year-old trotting winners. And the winners keep on coming. Proof of that came at Melton last night (Saturday May 17)," Searle said.
The 71-year-old Western Australian, who is currently based in Great Western, Victoria, was referring to 2-year-old $15,000 Metropolitan winner, Vance Lane.
"Vance Lane, who is by Elite Stride, is out of an Elsu sister to Courtesy Chancery, named Valsue. Their oldest sibling Lord of The Gym (2004 Muscles Yankee gelding) was the best trotter the family has produced so far.
"He won 21 races and $262,090, including the 2008 Group One NSW Trotters Derby; the 2008 Group One South Australian Trotters Derby; and the 2007 Group Two Redwood. He also placed in many other Group One and Two races," Searle said.
Buyers could also do little wrong buying Lot 30 – a 6-year-old black Betting Line - Alata Calypso mare named, Our Lola Mae.
Bred by Victorian, Colin Moore, Our Lola Mae won two of her six starts before retiring to the broodmare's paddock in June 2022. Since then, she has left A Vincent yearling filly and a Poster Boy weanling born on October 5 last year.
Our Lola Mae’s dam and grand dam were both quality racehorses.
Alta Calypso, a 2000 Village Jasper - Ballie Hanover mare, won 13 races in Victoria between 2003 and 2007. She was also a starter in the 2004 Australian Oaks, and was a winner of two $10,500 races when driven by Chris Alford and the late Gavin Lang.
Her first two foals Changing Code (2009 Art major gelding) and Milly Perez (2010 Four Starzzz Shark filly) won 19 and 19 races respectively and recorded 1:53.9 and 1:52.7-mile rates.
Milly Perez was also the 2015 Group One Vicbred 4yo Mare’s champion, and placed in several other Group One, Two and Three events.
Our Lola Mae's grand-dam, the 1991 brown Kentucky Spur - Belle Newton mare, won eight races, and left the 14-win 2012 Real desire mare, Ultimate Desire (1:52.6).
Lot 39 is also worth a second glance. This 2015 Somebeachsomewhere - Bylonga Art mare by the name of Grahams Legacy, is currently in foal to Ride High.
Bred by G.R. Cooper of New South Wales, this 9-year-old bay, is being presented by Geoff Waters and Partners. She won two of her three starts before being retired to the broodmare's paddock after recording a 1:55.1 victory at Tabcorp Park Menangle on August 21, 2018.
Grahams Legacy has so far left three unraced pacers namely a 3-year-old Betting Line filly named Wheredainterviewat; a 2-year-old Un-named Sweet Lou colt; and an un-named Bettors Wish weanling filly born on November 27 last year.
Her dam, the 2008 Artsplace - Bylong Bele mare, Bylonga Art (1:55.2), won 10 races and currently has two of her four foals racing.
Grand-dam, the 1998 Fake Left - Think About It chestnut mare, Bylong Belle (1:56.6), was an above average pacer, who won 18 races and $166,671 from 2001 to 2006. She was also a two-time Listed Classic winner and competed in the 2005 Ladyship Mile.
