A trio of broodmares from some of the most successful maternal families in Western Australia today will go up for auction at the Australian Pacing Gold’s Autumn Mix Online Sale from May 23 to 25.

The offering is spearheaded by the Art Major mare Lucy Frances (Lot 47), a sibling to four $100,000 earners including the Australian 2YO Colt of the Year Never Ending, a winner of his first nine starts and eight Group races for $686,779 in stakes.

Lucy Frances is also a sister to the Group 3 winner and multiple Group placegetter Mandy Joan ($168,564) and to Janet Gai, who became the dam of the WA Pearl runner-up Otis ($260,614), and a three-quarter sister to the Pearl winner and WA 2YO Colt of the Year Isaiah Artois ($117,351).

Endless Journey, the dam of Lucy Frances, was a half-sister to the WA Sales Classic winner Fake Embrace ($240,249), the Vicbred heat winner Go By Jet and the Golden Greek mare Like A Dame, a broodmare gem who left four $100,000 earners headed up by the outstanding WA stayer and 12-time Group winner David Hercules ($1.2million) and the exported Kerrin Joseph ($226,189).

Lucy Frances, who is not in foal, is being offered by prominent WA breeder Zoe Ellis, of Temuka Park, a vendor at the WA yearling sales for over 50 years and a wonderful supporter of WA breeding and racing.

Lot 35 Benesari Lane and Lot 36 Remit Me Whitby are both daughters of influential sire Mach Three and members of good winning families established by the late Dr Ed Dewar, of Whitby Falls Stud.

Benesari Lane, an APG yearling purchase herself, totted up five wins in a brief racetrack career including the 2021 WA Oaks and $143,934 in stakes.

She’s out of the $130,000 winner Terrifying, a granddaughter of the WA Sires Stakes champion and Bathurst Gold Tiara and Gold Bracelet runner-up Typhoon Whitby ($163,751), dam of the Group 3 winner Bronzwhaler Whitby ($135,652).

This is the family of the Miracle Mile winner Franco Tiger, the Westbred Classic winner Kimba Bay ($219,382), the Listed victor Scot Bay ($134,886) and the Group 1 placegetters Tempestuous Whitby and Go On Tempt Me.

Being offered by Byford horsewoman Vickie Lea, Benesari Lane, whose first two foals are not of racing age, carries a positive test to the Rocknroll Hanover horse Foreclosure, sire of the ‘black type’ winners Belly Up, All Is Well and Pocketful Of Opals from his first small Australian crops.

Remit Me Whitby, a winner of four races, belongs to the family that produced the outstanding WA racemare Whitby’s Miss Penny ($568,289), the dual Inter Dominion heat winner Whitby Timer, Ima Spicey Lombo ($483,686), the Derby winner Soho Spectre and Gardy’s Legacy (1:49).

Remit Me Whitby’s first three dams were all in the top bracket as racemares and broodmares.

Her dam Zerina Whitby won 15 races and $107,827 and left seven winners, her grand-dam Whitby’s Merit was a dual Group 1 winner of $168,598 and became the dam of 11 winners and the great grand-dam Remit won 18 races and threw eight winners.

Zerina Whitby’s progeny included Our Zac Whitby (1:50.4), who won 32 races and $410,857, Senator Whitby ($96,094) and the Westbred Classic placegetter Dourado ($88,811), while Whitby’s Merit’s offspring were headed up by the Victoria Oaks winner and WA Sires Stakes champion Montana Anna ($230,863) and the WA Golden Slipper and Sales Classic victor Aikido Whitby ($270,328).

Remit Me Whitby is safely in foal to last season’s premier two and three-year-old sire Sweet Lou.
