APG is expanding its lineup of online auctions for 2025, featuring three distinct sales. Two of these sales have already been revealed, but today, they are honoured to introduce a special event: the Estate Sale for the late Dr. Ed Dewar.

Dr. Ed Dewar Estate Sale

Dr. Ed Dewar, a stalwart of the Western Australian breeding industry, passed away earlier this year. A true legend of harness racing, Ed amassed over 1,100 individual race wins, with his horses claiming prestigious titles such as the Golden Slipper, the Pearl Classic, the WA Oaks, and the WA Derby. His contributions to the sport were recognized with a well-deserved Lifetime Membership by the Western Australian Standardbred Breeders Association.

For four decades, Whitby Falls Stud – Dr Dewar’s breeding operation – was a fixture in WA’s racing landscape. His passing represents an immense loss to the industry and to the many who had the privilege of knowing him personally. A gentleman of the sport, his presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire harness racing community.

While he had begun to scale down operations at Whitby Falls Stud in recent years, he retained a select group of broodmares and young horses. Following his passing, the Dewar family has entrusted APG to conduct an estate sale of his remaining stock. This exclusive online auction will run from Friday, May 2nd, to Sunday, May 4th, 2025.

A total of 17 horses will be on offer, including:

  • 12 broodmares (5 in foal, 2 with foals at foot)

  • 1 four-year-old

  • 3 two-year-olds

  • 1 yearling

APG is currently preparing a full catalogue featuring pedigrees and photos of each horse. Full details will be available soon on the APG Online Sales page.

Expanded APG Online Mix Sales

In response to feedback from vendors and buyers, APG is also expanding its traditional Online National Mix Sale into two separate events, providing greater opportunities for all participants. These auctions will be open to all types of horses, including weanlings, yearlings, racehorses, stallions, and broodmares from across the country.

Kicking them off in 2025 will be the Autumn Mix Sale.

  • Entries Open: Monday, April 7th, 2025

  • Entries Close: Friday, May 2nd, 2025

  • Auction Dates:12:00 PM Friday, May 23rd – 5:00 PM Sunday, May 25th

This will be followed by the Winter Mix Sale.

  • Entries Open: Tuesday, July 1st, 2025

  • Entries Close: Friday, July 25th, 2025

  • Auction Dates:12:00 PM Friday, August 15th – 5:00 PM Sunday, August 17th

These expanded sales offer an ideal platform for breeders, owners, and buyers alike, ensuring more opportunities for quality stock to find new homes.

Stay tuned for further details and updates on the APG Website and Online Sales Page
