Connections of four-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding Jorge Street are undecided if they will tackle a heat of the Tasmania Cup this weekend after he claimed the biggest win of his 33-start career when obliterating his rivals in the $20,000 Page Transport Carrick Cup (2650m) in front of a large crowd at Carrick Park on Sunday afternoon.

Driver Mitch Ford got the Tammy Langley-trained pacer away cleanly from the tapes and settled in second position before ending up in the one-one near the 1300m.

With a solid tempo set in the lead, it turned out to be a nice position to be in, with Ford producing the $7 chance three-wide near the 400m, where he dashed away to score by 17.7m over Nova Baxter ($7.50) and Pardoe Plugga ($61).

The mile rate of 2:00.5s broke the previous 2650m track record, previously held by James Dean, who ran 2:01.7s when he won the Cup in 2021.

“When the field came out, I thought it wasn’t an overall strong front line of beginners, but I was able to lob in the right spot at the right time,” said Ford post-race.

“Coming to the 400m, he felt really nice, and when I pulled him out, he produced a brilliant turn of foot.

“When he first came down (from New South Wales in October) he went good. He then lost his way, but his last couple have been good. He ran third to Star Major over the long trip last start, and he ran fourth in a Tassie Cup heat on Friday, so the form has stacked up well,” the driver added.

Earlier in the day, the Tammy Langley-trained Diamondsnblue ($10) broke the 2150m track record when claiming the Jaytric Logistics Stakes (2150m).

The Rock N Roll Heaven mare recorded a mile rate of 1:57.0s, breaking Miss Papenhuyzen’s previous record of 1:57.2s.

Diamondsnblue was positioned three back in the running line and let down three wide near the 450m to go on and score by 12.4m over stablemate Southpaw Slugger ($13).

The Langley stable also had success with A Shadow Of Doubt ($1.60 fav) winning in the opening race.
