The Dylan Ford-trained and driven Triple Vinnies continued on his winning ways when claiming the Tasmanian Horse Transport Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Friday night.
The four-year-old gelded son of Vincent has won three of his four starts since arriving in Tasmania after winning four of 21 starts in Victoria.
On Friday, Triple Vinnies ($2.05 fav) settled last in the six-horse field, where after a slow lead time of 36.4s, the leader, Twilight Bonnie, then bowled along in quarters of 29.9s, 29.6s and 27.8s with the final quarter ran in 30.6s.
Ford made his move wide on the track from the 600m, and while he always seemed the likely winner in the straight, he secured victory by a half-head over Twilight Bonnie ($14), with Southern Luck ($21) finishing a further 12.8s behind in third place in a mile rate of 1:58.8s.
“He is quick. That’s his biggest asset, but in his last two starts, he has shown he can do a bit of work as well.
“The issue we have is that he wears a set of dollies, and when he can’t see them, he tends to switch off. However, at home, he can be a handful to work with; he is one of those horses that wears a shadow roll, and if he spots something, he will spin around,” said Ford about the win.
“He came to me very green, but he did have above-average ability in Victoria.
“We targeted the trainer’s series at Carrick to try and give him some confidence, and I imagine he is a horse that will go through the grades pretty quick,” the trainer-driver said confidently.
It was a big night across two states for the training and driving combination of Conor Crook and Jordan Chibnall.
The pair won in Hobart with Mon Soleil ($1.85 fav) and Better Exclusive ($2.25 fav), but they also had success as part-owners of Eternal Darkness, a two-year-old gelding, who won at the thoroughbred meeting at Moonee Valley.
Eternal Darkness is trained by Jordan’s father, Anthony.
