The late Harry Capararo was one of Western Australia’s most successful and highly respected standardbred breeders and owners.
The driving force behind Adda Equine Stud, Harry bred and raced over 650 winners headed up by Rich And Spoilt, a winner of 20 races and $300,000 including the WA Pearl, WA Sires Stakes 3YO Final and Caduceus Club Classic and later a successful colonial bred sire.
Unfortunately Harry died in 2019 after a long battle with cancer and his son Peter has vowed to continue the Adda Equine dynasty.
“I want to keep his legacy going. Dad’s passion was breeding, so I dispersed of all his racing stock and have concentrated on the breeding side,” Peter said.
Peter currently owns 13 broodmares at his Albany property.
Adda Equine Stud will present a four strong consignment - three fillies and a colt - for the Australian Pacing Gold WA Yearling Sale at the Magic Millions Complex on Sunday, March 2.
The quartet are being prepared by well known horsewoman Debbie Lewis, of Hollywood Park, Hopeland.
The lone colt from the Adda draft, Lot 405a, a son of the leading sire Always B Miki and the former top racemare My Samantha Jane NZ, should attract plenty of attention.
The colt is the last foal of My Samantha Jane, the winner of 15 races and a multiple Group placegetter with a $166,426 bankroll.
He’s a half-brother to the 2023 WA 3YO Filly of the Year August Moon 1:51.6 ($302,463), whose 11 successes to date include the WA Oaks, Westbred 3YO Classic, WA Sales Classic and the Dainty’s Daughter Country Classic, and last season’s two-year-old winner The Khukri (1:58).
“She died giving birth to Captain Crunch two years ago. There is no more to this family as August Moon now resides in America and the only others are The Khukri and the yearling colt in the sale,” Peter Capararo said.
The first of the three fillies from Adda Equine is Lot 359, a daughter of WA’s premier sire Fly Like An Eagle and the Rich And Spoilt mare Adda Tarantalla 1:58 ($81,806), a multiple Group placegetter.
The filly belongs to the same family as the WA Great Southern Derby winner Not Bad Johnnie 1:57.2 ($173,401), the WA Lord Mayor’s Cup runner-up Roman Art ($120,851) and Roman Legion (1:56.8).
Lot 388a, a lovely American Ideal filly, ranks as a half-sister to the Westbred Classic placegetter Heez Good As Gold (1:55.8).
She’s out of the unraced Art Major mare Front Page Adda, whose dam, the American bred Paige Nicole Q 1:52 ($712,801), won the USA Breeders Crown at two and three. At the stud she left the fast American winners Cue The Paige (1:49.6) and Teenage Paige (1:50) and the SA Southern Cross 3YO winner and Vicbred 3YO Final runner-up Getya Wings Out 1:58.8 ($137,459).
Others from this fine family have been the USA millionairess Agent Q (1:48.8), the Group 2 WA winner Alta Intrigue 1:56.4 ($260,594) and Denis William 1:52.1 ($110,340).
The last of the three fillies is Lot 414a, by last season’s third leading first crop sire Captain Crunch from the successful American Ideal mare Muffins (1:59.1), a half-sister to the good Menangle winner My Crackling Rosie (1:52.5).
The filly’s third dam Armida and fourth dam La Speranza were both top racemares in their own right.
Armida numbered the Bathurst Gold Tiara among her nine successes, while La Speranza’s 18 victories included the Kay Seymour Nursery and the Victoria Youthful Stakes.
