Striking Colt with an Intense Pedigree

There is a youngster in the 2025 APG Ipswich Yearling Sale with one of the most fascinating pedigrees I have ever seen – and trust me, I have seen a lot. 

The colt is Lot 111 and all four of his grandparents trace back to famous broodmare K Nora on their maternal line. 

For breeding buffs, this is the Miss Duvall (U7) family and one of the greatest of all harness racing dynasties. 

It boasts a swag of champion racehorses and sires, including Art Major, Captaintreacherous and former equal fastest pacer in the world He’s Watching (1.46). 

This colt, by American Ideal from all-American mare Guilty Pleasure, also has Life Sign in the fourth line of his pedigree, who also traces back to K Nora. 

K Nora had two outstanding daughters, full sisters Angel Hair and Ambiguity. 

Angel Hair is the ancestress of three of the colt’s grand parents, Western Ideal, Rob Roy Mattgregor and Romancing Ashley. 

Ambiguity is the grandam of the other grandparent, Lifetime Success and great grandsire Life Sign. 

And just for good measure, the colt has three lines of No Nukes, two lines of Direct Scooter and two lines of Abercrombie on his fourth pedigree line. 

And for non breeding buffs, that is about as intense as bloodlines get. 

It certainly has created a striking black yearling. The colt has been consigned by Steve Clements and prepared by highly respected harness nursery Burwood Stud. 

He is the second foal of two-time winner Guilty Pleasure. Her first foal, McEqualizer, had three 2YO starts last season. 

Grandam Romancing Ashley has left five winners and is a half sister to good US pacer Paintbrush (1.50.6, $245K). 

It will be fascinating to see how far this fellow can go if all those U7 genes gel successfully. 

Clements will offer a filly (Lot 103) by McWicked from American Ideal mare Botswana Baby, who is a half sister to outstanding filly Led Suitcase (1.55.8, $261K). 

Led Suitcase won the $300,000 Australasian 2YO fillies Breeders Crown final in 2009. She is a half sister to one of the all-time great Australian pacers Lennytheshark (1.49.2, $3M). 

Their dam is a half sister to Australian Oaks winner Newbold Penny (2.00.9, $175K), so there is strong evidence of top fillies throughout the generations. 

Another Clements filly (Lot 109) by Downbytheseaside from unraced Art Major mare Good On Top is a half sister to outstanding Tasmanian youngster Montana Storm (1.50.4, $159K). 

Good On Top is a half sister to four $100,000 earners including Mark Dennis (1.51.4, $340K) and the dam of dual Interdominion final placegetter Flaming Flutter (1.49.2, $899K).
