The Team Teal Campaign is back for 2025. Tasmania’s female harness racing drivers will again join their mainland and Kiwi counterparts by wearing teal-coloured driving trousers, with Sunday night’s Hobart card being the first meeting in Tasmania for the campaign.
The WomenCan initiative began on 1 February and will run through until 15 March. However, the promotion will be extended in Tasmania to incorporate the Tasmania Cup Final meeting on 22 March.
Various corporate sponsors will contribute to the campaign, with Tasracing donating $200 for every win by a female trainer and/or driver in the state.
This year, Tammy Langley has been named the training ambassador, with one of her stable runners per race wearing Team Teal promotional colours. The Tiny Tot ambassador is Lucy MacDonald, who will carry Team Teal colours in the mini trots. Tiarna Ford is the driving ambassador, who will also carry Team Teal colours, and she is happy to be playing a part in Team Teal 2025.
“It is a privilege to support research, spread awareness, and give some hope to those battling illness through Team Teal.
“I take pride in being involved in an initiative that unites the harness racing community for a cause that truly matters,” said Ford.
Ford has three drives on Sunday’s Hobart card, rating Denny as her best winning chance.
Denny, a former Kiwi and Victorian pacer, will be making his first start in the state since joining the Tammy Langley stable. He has drawn the pole in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprint Lane Pace (2090m).
“Denny trialled okay and should have improved on that. The stable has a good record, with horses first up in the state. The soft draw also plays in our favour,” Ford said about the pacer.
The trial the driver referred to was on 20 January in Hobart when finishing fourth behind Reely Nauti, where the pacer weaved through the field in the home straight.
All races will now be shown on Sky Racing 1 and Tasracing Live, with the following time amendments made after the original publication of fields and newspaper form guides.
Race 1 is now 17:29, Race 2 is now 18:01, Race 3 is now 18:28, Race 4 is now 19:06, Race 5 is now 19:38, Race 6 is 20:07, Race 7 is now 20:39, Race 8 is 21:10 and Race 9 is now 21:36.
