HRV Stewards opened an inquiry into the conduct of licensed driver Rhys Nicholson in the stabling area at Melton following the running of Race 6 on Saturday 27 May 2023. Mr Nicholson was interviewed on Wednesday 31 May 2023 and was afforded the opportunity and a timeframe within which he could provide submissions as to the application of  Australian Harness Racing Rule 183 "Pending the outcome of an inquiry, investigation or objection, or where a person has been charged with an offence, the Stewards may direct one or more of the following:-

(d) that a licence or any other type of authority or permission be suspended."

After giving consideration to the matter Stewards detemined to suspend Mr Nicholson's licence to drive in races pending the outcome of the inquiry, with the suspension to commence immediately. Mr Nicholson was apprised of his right to appeal.
