VIC - Stewards Supplementary Report
Ballarat – 27 April 2022
The Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Stewards have concluded an inquiry into an altercation between licenced persons at the Ballarat race meeting on 27th of April 2022
After considering all evidence tendered, Stewards issued a charge against licenced person Rhys Nicholson under the provisions under of Australian Harness Racing Rule 231(2) which states:
231. (2) A person shall not misconduct himself in any way.
The particulars of the charge being that at the Ballarat race meeting on 27 April 2022, which Mr. Nicholson attended and participated in as a driver, he misconducted himself by instigating and engaging in an altercation with another licenced person.
In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account Mr. Nicholson’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence, his previous offence record and the circumstances of the offending. Stewards accordingly imposed a fine of $1,500 upon Mr. Nicholson with $1000 of that penalty suspending for a period of 2 years, providing that he doesn’t reoffend under the conduct related rules during that time.
Ballarat – 9 September 2022
The Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Stewards have concluded an inquiry into the conduct of various licenced persons at the Ballarat race meeting on Friday the 9th of September 2022.
Upon consideration of all the evidence, including the available CCTV footage, Stewards issued a charge against licence trainer Mr. Anton Golino, under the provisions of Australian Harness Racing Rule 231(2) which states:
231. (2) A person shall not misconduct himself in any way.
The particulars of the charge being that at the Ballarat race meeting on the 9th of September 2022, Mr Golino instigated an altercation with another licenced person.
In assessing penalties Stewards, took into account Mr. Golino’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence throughout the inquiry, the circumstances which led to the offending. Stewards were further mindful of his offence record which displayed a recent offence which included a suspended fine. Stewards accordingly imposed a total fine of $3,000 however, ordered $2000 of the penalty be suspended for a period of 2 years, providing Mr. Golino does not reoffend under the conduct related rules in that time.
Bendigo – 28 September 2022
RACE 2 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM HOME GROWN CLASSIC (2YO COLTS & GELDINGS) (2ND HEAT) (1650 MS)
Courtney Slater, trainer of Bandit Eyes advised subsequent to the poor performance at Bendigo on September 28 2022, that the gelding had pulled up well. Ms.Slater stated the stable were awaiting results of blood tests and a decision on the current preparation would be made once received.
RACE 3 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM HOME GROWN CLASSIC (2YO FILLIES) (1ST HEAT) (1650 MS)
Emma Stewart, trainer of Perfect In Pink advised subsequent to the poor performance at Bendigo on September 28 2022, that the filly had recovered well. Ms.Stewart stated that Perfect In Pink would continue with the current preparation.
Tabcorp Park Melton – 1 October 2022
RACE 5 - DOWNBYTHESEASIDE VICTORIA DERBY (1ST HEAT) (2760 MS)
Andy Gath, trainer of Catch A Wave advised subsequent to the run at Tabcorp Park Melton on October 1 2022, that the gelding had pulled up well. Mr.Gath stated Catch A Wave has worked well this week and at this stage will be continuing with the current preparation.
