Kadina hobby horseman and IT manager Tyson Linke is well-versed in harness racing royalty.
He bred, owned and educated the inaugural $2 million TAB Eureka winner and dual Oaks and Breeders Crown champion Encipher.
The SA BOTRA Pace winner Queen Of Sharkz, the Southern Cross and Lordship winner Hezrockinroyalty, Jet Quick (18 wins) and the Mermaid Stakes victor Reil Quick have been other smart performers he has been associated with.
Linke, who belongs to a family steeped in harness racing and is a successful trainer in his own right, started his breeding program about 10 years ago.
“However, it’s probably been only over the last five years that we have been breeding more seriously, patronising the better quality stallions,” Tyson said.
“We are currently breeding three foals a year.”
Linke’s sole entry in the Australian Pacing Gold Adelaide Yearling Sale at Gawler on Sunday is a bay/brown colt out of one of the trio of mares he owns in Reil Quick. He is listed as Lot 508.
A daughter of the great New Zealand stayer Elsu, Reil Quick won 17 races including the Mermaid Stakes and SA Country Graduation Series and over $70,000 in stakes.
“Unfortunately, she sustained a few injuries as a two and three-year-old, so she missed several of the really nice features,” Linke stated.
“Her first foal Lou Lou Quick won four races and is now being bred from and her second foal Quick Bid went super as a three-year-old but unfortunately got a virus after the Southern Cross and was retired,” he said.
Reil Quick’s fourth foal – Linke’s lone entry at Gawler - is a product of the 2022 USA and Canadian 3YO Colt of the Year and Breeders Crown hero Pebble Beach and the only one of the $1.7 million Downbytheseaside horse’s first crop in the SA yearling sale.
“He’s the spitting image of Pebble Beach. He’s a very powerful individual that will go early,” Tyson said. “His conformation is perfect.”
