Mr Doug Freeman.
Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) today announced a significant leadership transition welcoming Mr Doug Freeman as the Chairman of the Board.
The HRNSW Board resolved to appoint Mr Freeman as Chairman, effective March 2.
Mr Freeman brings extensive professional expertise and a lifelong personal connection to harness racing.
“I feel very honoured to take on this important role,” Mr Freeman said.
“Having travelled the western districts of NSW to the trots every Saturday throughout my youth, the sport is close to my heart. I want to ensure harness racing in NSW is not only sustainable, but also grows into the future.”
Mr Freeman takes on the Chairman position following the retirement of Mr Ken Brown AM from the role following six years of dedicated service as Chairman and a long and distinguished tenure on the Board.
“Mr Brown’s contribution to harness racing in NSW has been substantial,” said HRNSW Chief Executive Mr Peter Buckman.
“During his time as Chairman, he provided steady governance, strategic clarity and an unwavering commitment to the long-term interests of the sport.
“Under his stewardship, HRNSW strengthened its organisational capability, advanced integrity and animal welfare outcomes, and positioned the industry to respond confidently to an evolving racing and wagering landscape.”
Mr Freeman also acknowledged his predecessor’s contribution.
“I would like to congratulate and thank Ken for his leadership throughout his long tenure on the Board, and especially as Chairman. He leaves HRNSW in very good shape and ready to meet the challenges we will face going forward.”
