14-time Gloucester Park premiership winner Gary Hall Jnr heads into today’s third round of World Drivers Championship (WDC) at Cambridge today leading on 54 points, a 14-point lead over former world driving champion James MacDonald from Canada and Italian Giampaolo Minnucci in third on 37 points.

The Western Australian was aided with four of the first five favourites in the series and took advantage with two wins, a second and fourth.

Hall Jnr, a two-time Australian diving champion, is the fourth Western Australian representative in the WDC and looking to become WA’s first ever world driving champion. Fred Kersley came the closest in 1991 running second, Jim Schrader ran seventh in 1973 and fifth in 1979, while Chris Lewis ran tenth in 2011.

Only two Australian’s have ever won a WDC, Queensland’s Keith Addison in 1975 and legendary Victorian reinsman Ted Demmler in 1987.

There are five heats scheduled for Cambridge, below are his drives:  

1.04pm (WA time) R3 Heat 6 #6 Reet Petite (Tr: Adrienne Matthews)

1.40pm (WA time) R4 Heat 7 #9 Kenny Hill (Tr: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett)

2.14pm (WA time) R5 Heat 8 #7 Upstage (Tr: Steve & Amanda Telfer)

2.40pm (WA time) R6 Heat 9 #10 Hughie Wallace (Tr: Trevor Phillips)

3.16pm (WA time) R7 Heat 10 #5 Im Not The Maid (Tr: Ray Green & Nathan Delany)

The WDC then heads to Addington on Friday, Winton on Sunday, before finishing on New Zealand Cup Day on the second Tuesday in November.

Today’s Cambridge meeting coincides with Gloucester Park’s traditional Wednesday meeting after Melbourne Cup day where the first of seven races is set to start at 11.07am (WA time)
