Former Tasmanian Dylan Marshall will return to the sulky in his home state of Tasmania on Friday night, with three drives in Launceston.
Marshall grew up on the state’s north-west coast before leaving Tasmania in 2009. He is now based in Bendigo, where he has his own diesel mechanic business.
He returns to Tasmania with his partner and trainer Tayla Fellows to campaign several horses for the next few weeks, headlined by Group 3 Raider Stakes prospect Do It, who will contest the Find Us On Facebook Pace (2200m).
Do It was bred in Tasmania by Shelley Barnes and sold at the Tasmanian harness racing yearling sale before finding his way to Victoria.
“He ended up in Victoria, and we have had him since March last year, and he has just kept improving,” said Marshall.
“He is a nice animal. We are still finding out how far he can go. I think he will keep getting better over the next 12 months.”
Do It, a gelded son of Always B Miki, was unplaced at his only start in 2024 when fifth at Shepparton. Since returning to the track in late January, he has won three of his six starts. The most recent win came at his last start at Maryborough on 18 June, where he overcame barrier six on the second line to score in a mile rate of 1:57.1s for the 1690m trip.
Marshall will also drive the Tayla Fellows-trained Malava Miss (race four) and Manfredi (race six), where Liam Older will partner stablemate Martha Lavinia.
“I’m only the driver this week,” Marshall laughed.
“We came over (to Tasmania) ourselves on the boat. I hope to stay here for the whole month, provided work doesn’t get in the way, and we can have a holiday at the same time.
“Being away (in Victoria) has definitely made me a better horseman. I have my own business, things are going pretty good, and we are enjoying life as much as we can. We keep trying to find a decent horse,” said Marshall.
