The trotters are rising in popularity and Mondays STAWA/TABtouch Trotters Cup is testament to that with the $11,000 feature boasting a 12-horse field, with two emergencies on stand-by should they be given the opportunity to contest the 2631m standing start cup.
Majestic Ga Ga has made it three in a row for the Michael Young Pacing stable after connections purchased her for a rumoured $16,000, after seeing her advertised online.
With her advert sitting stagnant for three weeks, the ownership group eventually pounced, and with just seven starts here in the west, Michael Young is confident she will win the Trotters Cup on Monday at Pinjarra.
“She was galloping her first few starts, but the last three have been perfect.
“I asked her nicely is she could please start trotting, and she obliged.
“Turns out my words have a way with the ladies.” Michael Young mentioned.
Majestic Ga Ga starts off the 20m handicap, and Michael Young is adamant that she can only get beaten if she gallops.
Seasoned professional Patched starts off the 60m back marker in the stand, and after taking out the Metro Trotters Cup earlier in the year, the eight-year-old is now looking to take out the $11,000 Trotters Cup feature at Pinjarra, taking this seasons earning to in excess of $100,000.
Patched has had two starts back this preparation, finishing in second place last week at Gloucester Park behind likely race favourite Majestic Ga Ga, and trainer David Young is realistic about their chances this week.
“It won’t be easy to beat Majestic Ga Ga, but last week showed he’s not out of it.
“If something happens to the favourite, he’s a chance to cause an upset.”
Young has two horses going around in the feature, with Thats Not My Gait starting off the 40m handicap, with Trent Wheeler in the seat.
