The state’s leading junior reinsman Jett Turnbull is still coming down from the clouds after claiming his first feature race win at Bathurst on Wednesday evening.
The 17-year-old combined with his father Nathan to take out the $100,000 TAB Regional Championships Western Final with Glitter Aint Gold who led throughout on his way to an impressive eighteen-metre victory as a short-priced favourite.
Turnbull proved yet again just why he is being touted as a future champion of the sport by keeping a cool head after firing the pacer off the arm before dictating terms in front and rating him perfectly, never appearing to be in danger of defeat.
The win took Glitter Aint Gold’s record to seven wins from 24 starts, the winning stake in the Championship taking his earnings beyond $100,000.
Following the win, Jett could barely contain his excitement and heaped praise on the ability of his horse.
“This fella is a machine when he is on song and I am thankful that he brought his best form here on final night,” he said.
“I always felt that he was the best horse in the race, and when we drew so well in gate four it bolstered my confidence, but that said, I was relieved after we got the job done.
“The horse has been a great pick up for our stable and for his connections.
“We will now aim up for the state final and see how we go at Menangle before we make a plan for what is next for him.
“I do feel that he has the ability to progress to racing in the top grade moving forward.”
