Starter – Harness Racing SA
Harness Racing SA (HRSA) is responsible for the control, development and promotion of the South Australian harness racing industry. The HRSA Board and its members are strongly committed to the integrity function in South Australian harness racing.
HRSA is calling for applications for a full time or part time Starter. The Starter’s role requires the individual to start races at race meetings within South Australia including official trials as well as maintain the mobile barriers and equipment. The successful applicant would work with and answer to the Chairman of Stewards who is responsible for the control of all racing activities at over 120 harness meetings per year.
The successful applicant will undertake the following duties and have certain skill sets –
- Start races or trials which would require the person to have a good understanding of all relevant procedures and processes, to effectively and efficiently start mobile and standing start races.
- A strong work ethic and ability to remain calm when under pressure and make the appropriate decision, to get the best outcome in all circumstances.
- When required, check gear and equipment including horse identification.
- The ability to prioritise work, act professionally and without bias, at all times.
- Computer skills including MS Office and database experience
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills
- A satisfactory police clearance, less than 12 months old before commencement and current drivers licence.
- An understanding of the harness racing industry and the rules which regulate it.
The role requires evening and weekend work on a regular basis and on occasion Public Holidays, an attractive remuneration package would be offered, reflective of the skills and experience possessed by the successful applicant.
