Lot 10,the younger half-sister of the 2022 Western Australian Oakschampion, Taking The Miki, is bound to be a popular choice at the APG 2025 Online Autumn Mixed Sale running from May 23-25.
The un-named Raging Bull - All American Dream (Bettor’s Delight) yearling bay filly is set for a lucrative racing career if her only other racing sibling's record is anything to go by.
Big brother, 7-year-old Always B Miki bay filly, Taking the Miki (1:51.4) won 13 races and placed 21 times for $382,997.
Her best performance came at Gloucester Park on October 14, 2022 when she nailed the Group One $150,000 Western Australian 3yo Oaks. She was also a Group Two and two-time Group Three champion and placed in a couple of other Group Ones.
The vendors are owner, John Coffey and his friend of 40-plus years Zoe Ellis, on behalf of Western Australia’s Patrician Park.
“We wanted to breed the ‘Golden Cross’, which is Bettor’s Delight over Christian Cullen mares, but this time we did it in reverse. It’s worked a treat so many times. You only have to look in New Zealand to see there are many quality ‘Golden Crosses’ including that country’s top 3-year-old, Marketplace, who is who is by Bettor's Delight and out of a Christian Cullen mare named Cullen Who. He's now won 10 of his 16 starts and more than $600,000 in stakes.
"All American Dream is by Bettor's Delight and Raging Bull is a son of Christian Cullen. There actually weren't too many Christian Cullen stallions to choose from. Sadly Alta Christiano, who did a great job as a sire, passed away in 2020.
"This filly hasn't been broken in yet but we have high hopes for her, especially with her older sister being an Oaks winner. Zoe has been looking after his prep and we are hopeful the reverse ‘Golden Cross’ works this time," Coffey said.
Lot 10's only other sibling is an Always B Miki weanling colt born on October 29 last year.
Group One winning 2007 Western Terror mare, Gumdrops, has an exciting Always B Miki yearling colt up for grabs at the APG Sale. He is Lot 5.
Born on November 23, 2023 the un-named bay, is the fifth of five foals out of Gumdrops, who won 19 races and $256,910 between August 2012 and December 2016. She also placed on 17 occasions and recorded a 1:53.1 mile when triumphant in the Group Three Victorian Make Mine Cullen Pace at Melton on May 7, 2016.
However, Gumdrops greatest glory came in the 2014 Group One $100,000 Pegasus Club Queen Of The Pacific Pace at Melton on May 23, 2014.
She also nailed two Group Threes within a week of each other in May 2016, when winning the HBV Make Mine Cullen Pace and Angelique Club Cup, both at Melton.
Gumdrops older Badlands Hanover brother, Goodsie (1:57.7) won 23 races, while her younger Modern Art sister, Platinum Power (1:63.9) was an 11-race winner.
Of the 5 foals 2 are deceased due to accidents. The 3rd foal, after a promising start suffered an injury but is currently back in work showing excellent promise. The 4th foal is unraced but also shows excellent promise in this early stage of his career.
More recently Gumdrops has also left an un-raced Vincent 2-year-old colt.
Lot 4, might not have a name yet, but this quality Lather Up yearling filly is sure to make a name for herself when she makes her way to the racetrack. The vendor is Mitchell Frost.
The second of two foals out of the 8-year-old five-win Pet Rock - Our Kinda Art (Art major) mare, Cut From Rock (1:55.9). Her first foal, a 2-year-old Stay Hungry bay filly named Im Starving, is also yet to race.
Like Cut From Rock, Lot 4 was also bred by L and J Whish-Wilson of Queensland. She is the first of two foals out of the 2012 Art Major - The Kindy One bay mare, Our Kinda Art.
The Kindly One (1996 Praised Dignity - Kotare Fury mare) won eight races and just under $100,000 in purses. She left the quality 2004 Christian Cullen gelding Cullens Hope (1:58.1).
