A striking individual with a strong pedigree and a winner at the highest level as a juvenile in North America, the young Captaintreacherous horse Captain Ahab has all the attributes to make his mark as a sire.
Captain Ahab, who was first at the stud in America, where he sired eight winners from only 17 foals, was imported to Western Australia by Westbred Pacing in 2021 and in his initial season he covered 50 mares.
From a crop of 30 foals, he has had 17 to the races halfway through their three-year-old season, and five are winners and five have been placed.
Among his winners have been the Gloucester Park winners Chef’s Kiss, who won a heat of the APG Sales Classic at two and ran third in the Final at three, El Rae’s Girl and Spot On Molly.
Captain Ahab, who had a record of 1:50.8, won in good company including the $92,000 Nassagaweya Stakes, Champlain Stakes and Dream Maker Series, is one of the best bred horses at the stud in Australia.
By Captaintreacherous, one of America’s greatest ever sires, his dam Acquavella was a sister to a top colt pacer in Artspeak, the former USA and Canadian 2YO of the Year and the winner of eight grade events.
Captain Ahab is being offered as Lot 32 at the Australian Pacing Gold autumn mixed sale on May 24 and 25.
White Lion, the world’s only known racing cream palamino standardbred, is also going up for auction.
A grandson of the buckskin skewbald horse A Bit Of Bling, White Lion was a winner from comparatively few starts.
Bred by Tasmanian enthusiast Kerrie Hymers, White Lion is out of the chestnut mare Rainbow Banner, a NZ bred daughter of champion sire Live Or Die and from the family of the cup winners Daylight Dan, Atomic Saga, Niraadi and others.
White Lion is Lot 31.
