“It’s a family affair, me, Luke and Cliffy all work together and to win two of the last three between us all is unbelievable, words can’t describe how we are all feeling, and a weekend of celebrations is going to be happening.”

They’ve done it again, The Woodworth family have turned a small investment into another Busselton Cup winner with Hi Tommy taking out the feature, a repeat on their 2021 effort with Tiza New Day.

“We were confident if we could lead, he would give a lot of cheek, but the start was important.” Woodworth said.

Tom Tom, as he’s affectionately known around the stables was unflappable at the start, and after drawing widest on the front line, Hayden Hancock was able to get him to the front, dictating terms over the 2680m staying trip, staving off the fast-finishing Awaitinginstructions to win it by a head on the line in 2:06:3.

Busselton Cup replay

Purchased just months earlier for a mere $2000, Hi Tommy has now brought up his fifth win for the Woodworth camp, just seven starts into his campaign with them, with the Busselton Cup always a special one for the family.

“Cliffy had the happy clapper going, he doesn’t show much emotion but think this was one of the most exciting nights for him and us all as we had a lot of family there cheering us on.”

The Woodworth family took out the 2021 Busselton Cup with Tiza New Day not even 8 weeks after purchasing him from Hayden Reeves for just $1000, with the then six-year-old victorious at all three starts he had at Busselton that season.

Hi Tommy rounded out the season with Busselton Horse Of The Year, with four wins and a second at the Churchill Park circuit.

“Taking out horse of the year was a wicked moment for us all and we love going to Busselton and will be there next year,”

“He will have a few days off to recover, it’s been a hectic few weeks trying to get a L6 to get a start in the cup, we will freshen him up and go to Williams to try and get in that cup race, then he will head to the paddock for a spell.”

Racing at Williams gets underway on February 12 with the $8000 Jimmy Draper Memorial the feature for their first meeting. With only two meetings scheduled for Williams, their cup and wrap up meeting is just two weeks later on February 26.
