Brodie Davis heads to Launceston on Sunday with a strong book of drives, including chances in the Latrobe Cup, Sheffield Cup and Leigh Plunkett, but it may be maiden pacer Fancy Another who gives him his best chance of an early winner.
Fancy Another has finished runner-up at her past four starts at the track, and Davis is hopeful the Steven Davis-trained mare can turn her consistent form into a breakthrough win in the Adam Hamilton at the LAFM Beautide Pace (2200m).
The four-year-old mare has been runner-up at her past four starts, and she will start from barrier three on the second row in her quest for a maiden win at start 26.
“She has been thereabouts every start, so hopefully we can knock this one off,” said Brodie.
“I reckon I’ll end up putting her up on speed, so she should be thereabouts. She worked well enough the other day,” said Brodie, who rated the mare as his best winning chance on the program.
In the Lucas Hotel Latrobe Cup (2200m), Brodie will partner the Chris Viney-trained Keepers Ideal, who Brodie partnered to an all the way win in 1:56.0s last start.
“He was very good last week.
“Chris just said, just come out and see what happens and do whatever you want. He was real keen in the warm-up, so I just went, righto, I will just drive you like a superstar, and he went like one.
“I find his draw probably a bit sticky, but we’ll just have to see what he does.
Kostyuk Leis will be Brodie’s drive in the Ladbrokes Sheffield Cup (2698m) with the mare one of two handicapped to start off the front mark in the standing start race.
“As long as she goes away within the first five and can sit on a helmet and relax, she will be well and truly in the race.
“The long trip probably suits her. She would just sit there and just mosey along with them and then still be able to peel off a quarter.
Tambros Tilly (pictured) is Brodie’s final drive of the night, in the Tasracing Leigh Plunkett (2200m).
The mare was run down late in 1:54.9s two starts ago before being placed again at her most recent effort.
“On her run the other week and the one before, she should be well and truly in it,” the driver said.
The 10-race card commences at 16:25, with the first race scheduled on Sky Racing 2, with the final nine races on Sky Racing 1.
