Form Analysis by Will Norman
Race 1
Please note OUTBACK ROCK (2) draws gate 7 after being placed out of the draw at Burnie on Monday.
Liked the trial of IMA LITTLE NEEDY (3) at Carrick recently where he was able to score in good time. He looks to have plenty of size to him and appears to have taken good benefit from his spell. Comes into gate 2 and should land a good run near the speed. PHLOW JO (4) was forced to do plenty of work in the run last start when beaten as favourite. She is racing consistently and should be right in the mix again. STEPUPNDANCE (1) looked likely to be right in the finish at Hobart on Sunday before making a crucial error entering the home straight. Draws to have a nice run in transit today and if she behaves, looks a genuine threat. VOODOO RANGER (5) was runner up last start and has not been far away in similar races this preparation.
Selections – IMA LITTLE NEEDY (3), PHLOW JO (4), STEPUPNDANCE (1), VOODOO RANGER (5)
Race 2
DIDYALOUSAROOSTA (8) must overcome a slightly awkward draw today, but I think he is the horse to beat. Closed off well last start when 3rd to Mista Eagle. He was runner up to the promising Medina at his start prior, which looks a strong form line for today’s race. CEE TEE CHELSEA (7) has come back well this preparation after a long spell. She produced a good effort at Burnie on Monday night when coming from well back to finish 2nd. Should be fitter again here 3rd up and I think she looks a threat despite the outside draw. PREPARATION (3) was beautifully driven last start when winning at Hobart. Does rise in grade today but he is building a good record and looks progressive. POST LAZARUS (2) was five weeks between runs last start when making a long 3 wide run. He should be fitter today and with a kinder run in transit, he can be in the finish.
Selections – DIDYALOUSAROOSTA (8), CEE TEE CHELSEA (7), PREPARATION (3), POST LAZARUS (2)
Race 3
MY WAY (1) has finished runner up in both of his Tasmanian starts. He was luckless at Burnie on Monday night when held up before closing off strongly. With even luck from his draw today, I think he should be hard to beat. MARTYR (2) has a stable change today and has his first run for the Freddy Taiba stable. He showed good gate speed last start at Hobart before taking a trail and battling away quite well to finish 3rd in good time. Has the draw to race right on the speed today. ANDAMAN BAY (5) has found form in recent starts and was a good effort at Burnie on Monday. SINISTER (6) has his first run for Jordan Chibnall today after doing most of his racing at Mildura over the past couple of years. I thought his trial at Carrick had some merit and he could surprise first up.
Selections – MY WAY (1), MARTYR (2), ANDAMAN BAY (5), SINISTER (6)
Race 4
ONE BIG SHEW (4) drops back in grade today after contesting predominantly Free-For- All races in recent months. He closed off well at Launceston last start behind Vanquish Stride and Star Major, and I think today looks a suitable race for him. BETTABLACK TIGER (2) hasn’t been seen since 31st August but should be right in the mix here. A runner-up in the Beautide at Hobart three starts ago looks a very strong form line for today’s race. WE SALUTE YOU (7) closed off strongly at Hobart on Sunday night and ran the 2nd fastest last quarter of the race. Likely to be driven for one run here, the smallish field looks to suit. CAPTAIN PINS (3) might be put on the speed early today and have options thereafter. He was an improved effort last start when finishing 3rd to Iron Clad.
Selections – ONE BIG SHEW (4), BETTABLACK TIGER (2), WE SALUTE YOU (7), CAPTAIN PINS (3)
Race 5
WIND SOCK (4) has found form in recent starts and is looking for his 3rd straight win today. He was a strong effort at Hobart over the middle trip last start after winning at this track/distance the start prior. MISTA EAGLE (1) was an all the way winner here 2 starts back before finishing well back last start. He has the draw today to race on speed and can be a good improver. RAY DAN (3) appreciated being driven with cover last start over the 2200m here when sprinting well to win by over 4 metres. With the right trail today, he can be dangerous. ART HUNTSMAN (7) was runner up to Mista Eagle last start when having his first start in nearly 8 months. He didn’t have much luck at all entering the straight and arguably could have won with better luck. The draw hurts today, but he looks to have come back well.
Selections – WIND SOCK (4), MISTA EAGLE (1), RAY DAN (3), ART HUNTSMAN (7)
Race 6
Less than a month away from the Golden Apple heats and today is another opportunity for the better performed horses to gain valuable stand start experience. STAR MAJOR (11) looks very well placed today despite coming off 20m. He is rock hard fit and a proven standing start performer. GLENLEDI ELVIS (10) closed off strongly behind Star Major at Hobart last Sunday when finishing 2nd. A winner of his most recent stand start run, looks a danger despite the 20m handicap. DE GOEY (8) is an interesting runner today having his 1st run since July. I thought he looked very sharp in his recent trial and if he can begin well, can be competitive on his return. VANQUISH STRIDE (9) was a very good winner of the Show Cup from the stand 3 starts back and has followed that up with a win and a third. He is racing well and should be in the mix again.
Selections – STAR MAJOR (11), GLENLEDI ELVIS (10), DE GOEY (8), VANQUISH STRIDE (9)
Race 7
Tricky fillies and mares race to assess. ANGELSHAVTIME (11) hasn’t missed a placing in four consecutive starts. Not far away at Burnie on Monday night when finishing 3rd to Kiavino Stride. MISS CRUNCHY (10) is an interesting runner having her 2nd local start today. She was well found on her local debut last start when well beaten by Justify. Didn’t have the best of luck in transit on that occasion and could be an improver today. YARECKON IM SWEET (12) stuck on well at Hobart last Sunday before not much went her way when on the quick back up at Burnie. Tough draw to overcome but she should be near peak fitness now. GOT THE GLOW (8) makes her local debut today. She was a runner up at Redcliffe 3 starts back before contesting the Triad series at her most recent starts.
Selections - ANGELSHAVTIME (11), MISS CRUNCHY (10), YARECKON IM SWEET (12), GOT THE GLOW (8)
Race 8
Open race with several chances on paper. Putting THEE OLD BOMB (10) on top after a string of consistent efforts over the last month. He didn’t have the best of luck at Burnie on Monday night when held up down the back straight. He was a back-to-back placegetter at this track in his previous 2 starts. MAGIC JOE (8) was 6 weeks between runs last start when finishing 4th to Sabine. With even luck from his draw today, I think he can be in the finish. ZARA TINDALL (2) won on her local debut last start after securing a nice run in transit. She does rise in grade today but does draw well to race on speed again. RUBINS PLIGHT (12) has disappointed in his recent starts but could be a good improver today with the services of Dylan Ford.
Selections – THEE OLD BOMB (10), MAGIC JOE (8), ZARA TINDALL (2), RUBINS PLIGHT (12)
Race 9
HARRYS DEAL (4) will be looking to go one better today after back-to-back second’s over this track/distance. He should be able to race on the speed from his good draw and be right in the finish. ARMA ROLLING STONE (10) is flying and has run his rivals into the ground at his past 2 starts. It looks a different setup today from his back row draw but is racing well enough to potentially overcome it. OBLER (1) could be a good improver today from his inside draw. He broke his maiden here in good time 4 starts back and has drawn poorly in his 3 subsequent starts. ROLLWITHARTY (2) broke at a crucial stage at Burnie on Monday night. He looked likely to finish near the placings and could be an improver today at his second local start.
Selections – HARRYS DEAL (4), ARMA ROLLING STONE (10), OBLER (1), ROLLWITHARTY (2)
