Ballarat, Thursday 18 September

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: MAXY CAN DANCE (12) is a promising 3yo pacer, which has won two of his three starts to date. He came out three horses wide from the 700m and sustained a long run to score in a quick mile rate of 1.56.5 at Maryborough last week. JAMES GARNER (6) is a tough type and battled on strongly for a close second behind The Steel Dragon last outing. He is racing consistently and deserves to break through for a win. MONTANA PRIDE (7) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off quickly for second at Ballarat last outing. He is poorly drawn but looms as one of the leading chances. SASSYOLA (1) is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern and has claims along with JUSJOHN (8), which won against easier grade when on debut.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 2,5,6

SELECTIONS: MAXY CAN DANCE (12), JAMES GARNER (6), MONTANA PRIDE (7), SASSYOLA (1)

RATINGS: 12/ 6,7/ 1/ 10,11

SUGGESTED BET: MAXY CAN DANCE (12) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: JUST ABIT DUSTY (12) broke stride at the start, tacked on at the 1400m and finished with the herd at his latest seventh. He was a big winner over Blackrange Glory after making an early mistake at Ballarat on August 21 and must be considered as a winning chance again. MANDA KYVALLEY (11) raced without cover throughout, broke stride with 100m remaining when seemingly going to finish in second and ended up being fifth past the post at Kilmore last outing. She is racing better than her form reads and is worth an investment. JESSICAS STORY (6) performs best when she is able to lead out then take cover. She gained her favourite trip when she scored at Ballarat last outing and she is worth thought again. AZALEA MAE (3) has been runner up at her past two attempts against similar opposition and LOW LIE THE FIELDS (5) has the early speed to be prominent throughout.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely leader), 3,5

SELECTIONS: JUST ABIT DUSTY (12), MANDA KYVALLEY (11), JESSICAS STORY (6), AZALEA MAE (3)

RATINGS: 11,12/ 6/ 3,5/ 9/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: JUST ABIT DUSTY (12) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: VANCE LANE (9) is a smart trotter when he is able to put it altogether and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. He endured a tough run when fourth in the Gavin Lang Trot then followed with a fifth in the Bob Conroy Classic at Melton. ZOOLU (7) finished off best via the sprint lane and scored comfortably over RAPTA (4) at her debut performance. She faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but is worth thought again. NOSTRA NIPOTINA (11) is improving with every start and was runner up behind the handy performer I Choose You at Melton on August 22 so she is not without a chance. LIFE ON THE HILL (2) finished fifth in the Nutrien Classic at Melton last outing and is likely to find this assignment to be easier.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely early leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: VANCE LANE (9), ZOOLU (7), NOSTRA NIPOTINA (11), LIFE ON THE HILL (2)

RATINGS: 9/ 7,11/ 2,4,10/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: VANCE LANE (9) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: NO TELLING HEATHER (10) is racing well and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. She broke stride at the start, chased hard to tack on from the 1600m and worked home well for a game fourth behind Keayang Francisco at Geelong last week. ARTIGAS (5) trailed the leader, was checked on the first turn and broke stride before settling midfield on the markers when fourth at Maryborough last week. He is still learning and should continue to improve with experience. RARITY ROCK (9) finished off best to win at Cranbourne last outing and should be hitting the line strongly again. HES THEMIGHTYSPIN (1) occasionally has gait issues but he is generally a fast beginner and is a winning chance if he can hold a forward position around the first turn.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3,7

SELECTIONS: NO TELLING HEATHER (10), ARTIGAS (5), RARITY ROCK (9), HES THEMIGHTYSPIN (1)

RATINGS: 10/ 5,9/ 1/ 4/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: NO TELLING HEATHER (10) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: PREFERRED LOVE (4) began quickly to find the lead, ran along at a reasonable tempo and was run down on the line at her latest attempt. She has been placed at her past four starts and deserves to break through for a win. IM LADY RHONDA (2) is resuming since a third behind Mitchell Wrap in May and hasn’t been to the trials but she is a speedy mare and boasts a good record so she is worth an investment. PERFIDIOUS SUE (6) worked out of the gate, gained cover then came out three horses wide from the 600m when fifth behind Royal Charlotte last outing. She is a tough mare and appears to be well graded in this event. KYVALLEY ANTHONY (1) and MAJESTIC TOOTH (3) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 2,3,4,6

SELECTIONS: PREFERRED LOVE (4), IM LADY RHONDA (2), PERFIDIOUS SUE (6), MAJESTIC TOOTH (3)

RATINGS: 4/ 2,6/ 1,3/ 7,10/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: PREFERRED LOVE (4) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: HEY GIGI (5) pushed forward from a wide draw to race without cover and battled on well for a fourth behind the handy type Vivid Dream at Geelong last outing. She has returned from a spell in good form and should give another forward showing. METRO BLISS (3) attempted to lead throughout when second behind Jusjohn at her latest second. She is a good chance of finding the front again so she is capable of going one better. IM THE WILD ONE (6) has been placed in four of her past five starts and should run her usual honest race. She is a maiden from 30 starts but she has been placed 16 times so she is close to the money. SMASHED IT (10) broke stride at the start and lost all chance when eleventh at his first start since May. He was placed at a Terang trial prior so he is worth another chance.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 2,5,6

SELECTIONS: HEY GIGI (5), METRO BLISS (3), IM THE WILD ONE (6), SMASHED IT (10)

RATINGS: 3,5/ 6/ 10/ 1,2,8

SUGGESTED BET: HEY GIGI (5) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: GOLDEN TRIBE (5) is a fast beginner, which is resuming since a fifth at Melton in May. He has been placed in two recent trial performances and he recorded a slick mile rate of 1.54.0 when he scored two starts ago so he should take beating. DELIGHTFUL CHARM (4) was resuming since July when she parked on the outside of the leader throughout and scored at Cranbourne. She is an honest mare and is worth thought again. JIMMY BREEZE (3) is rising in class on his latest victory but he is a fast beginner and is drawn to give another forward showing. THE STEEL DRAGON (6) and WILD BULL (9) are both racing well enough to feature prominently, despite being awkwardly drawn.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 1,3

SELECTIONS: GOLDEN TRIBE (5), DELIGHTFUL CHARM (4), JIMMY BREEZE (3), THE STEEL DRAGON (6)

RATINGS: 5/ 3,4/ 6,9/ 1,2,8/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: GOLDEN TRIBE (5) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: RANGER RICK (6) is a fast beginner and has been racing at Metropolitan level so he should give a bold showing under these conditions. He led out then took cover when he scored at Hamilton three starts ago. DANCE AFFAIR (8) will also drop back in class for this assignment and was placed behind the top mare Sweet Ideal four starts ago. He drew on the outside of the second line and endured a wide trip so he has excuses last outing. ROSBERG (4) began very quickly to find the lead and ran along at a genuine tempo when he scored in a mile of 1.55.5 at Geelong last outing. He is drawn to obtain a forward position at the start and has winning claims again. AMPHIJET (2) settled in the second half of the field and finished off well for second at Kilmore. This is a race of more depth but he is drawn to receive every chance so he warrants consideration.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 2,6

SELECTIONS: RANGER RICK (6), DANCE AFFAIR (8), ROSBERG (4), AMPHIJET (2)

RATINGS: 6,8/ 4/ 2/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: RANGER RICK (6) each way
