Melton, Friday 25 April

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: HIGHPOINT (12) will appreciate a huge drop back in class for this assignment and is capable of running a big race despite the poor draw. He galloped away when racing at Metropolitan level last outing and finished fourth behind Aardies Peak in a strong standing start event prior. NOBLE COUNT (4) began quickly and moved up without cover when a brave second behind Oopzee Daizee at Ballarat last week. He is drawn to obtain a similar position again and is capable of going one better. MONT SALLY (1) is a fast beginner and performs best when she is able to lead so she is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern. NIGHT WHISPERER (6) and DESERT ASSASSIN (8) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: HIGHPOINT (12), NOBLE COUNT (4), MONT SALLY (1), DESERT ASSASSIN (8)

RATINGS: 12/ 1,4/ 8/ 6,11/ 2,3

SUGGESTED BET: HIGHPOINT (12) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: PICKLE IT (1) is a fast beginner and performs best when he can lead over the sprint distance so he has the conditions to suit him here. He led and finished second at Geelong two starts ago. SNAZOLA (9) settled midfield and finished off best when she defeated Chalkncheddar at Ballarat. She has the perfect trailing draw and looms as one of the leading chances again. REALLY SMARTIE (12) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and finished second behind Our True Colours (won again since) on April 04 so he is worth a ticket each way. BLUE OCEAN (5) produced a good performance after racing without cover throughout at his latest Bendigo second so he is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,3

SELECTIONS: PICKLE IT (1), SNAZOLA (9), REALLY SMARTIE (12), BLUE OCEAN (5)

RATINGS: 1/ 9,12/ 5/ 2,4/ 3,6,13

SUGGESTED BET: PICKLE IT (1) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: CAPTAIN PERFECT (3) is resuming since producing a career best performance to win the Homegrown Classic in a sizzling mile rate of 1.52.2 in December. He won a trial by a large margin at Melton last week and is clearly the horse to beat. HARLEY LANE (1) is a very speedy filly and did well to finish as close as he did when she came from last and finished sixth in the Nutrien Classic last outing. She much better drawn for this assignment and should go well. GALAXY LASS (10) worked to the lead then was taken on and headed at the bell when sixth in a heat of the Nutrien Classic last time out. She should be fitter from that run and has been racing at a high level so she cannot be left out of calculations. ROCKNROLL ROCKET (4) and ATA RANGI (7) are both worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 1,7

SELECTIONS: CAPTAIN PERFECT (3), HARLEY LANE (1), GALAXY LASS (10), ATA RANGI (7)

RATINGS: 3/ 1/ 7,10/ 4,5,9

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 3/ 1/ 4,5,7,9,10 (Cost $5)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: BULLETPROOF KID (10) is racing in peak form and broke through for a deserved victory at Cranbourne last time. He appeared to be a little lazy in the front running role at his latest victory so he seemingly has more to offer. DANCINGONSTARLIGHT (5) gained a nice trail and finished off best from the 600m to win at Cranbourne last outing. She is a versatile mare and looms as a winning chance again. JAY BEE (1) is a fast beginner and is perfectly drawn over the sprint distance. She wasn’t far away from the behind the leader at Ballarat last time out and should be competitive again. UP AND ABOUT (8) finished off well for third at Maryborough when resuming then didn’t have much luck in the straight when sixth behind Epic Orion last outing. He has the perfect trailing draw and is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 5,6

SELECTIONS: BULLETPROOF KID (10), DANCINGONSTARLIGHT (5), JAY BEE (1), UP AND ABOUT (8)

RATINGS: 10/ 1,5,8/ 3,4

SUGGESTED BET: BULLETPROOF KID (10) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: WALLIS (10) settled three back on the markers, angled to the outside on the home turn and finished off quickly to win at Echuca last week. He has won three of his past five starts and will be hitting the line strongly again. COL DU GRANON (5) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off strongly for a game second at Maryborough two starts ago. He is meeting a field of similar standard and is worth a ticket each way. MASSIF CENTRAL (1) came from last when a handy fourth at Maryborough last outing. He is much better drawn for this assignment and possesses early speed so he is worth thought. LITTLE TEDEY (8) produced a good performance to finish a close second at Maryborough last time out. He follows out behind a fast beginner so he has claims.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2,5,7

SELECTIONS: WALLIS (10), COL DU GRANON (5), MASSIF CENTRAL (1), LITTLE TEDEY (8)

RATINGS: 10/ 1,5,8/ 7,11/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: WALLIS (10) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: FLING IT RAINBOW (5) missed out narrowly behind Surprise To Me at Stawell last outing and he performs best when he is able to lead over the sprint distance so he is capable of going one better now. BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (12) was confidently supported but ruined her chances with a poor getaway when eighth ($1-55 fav) at Maryborough last outing. Her form prior was sound including a win over FLING IT RAINBOW (5) at Bendigo so she is worth another chance. BLANCO CANYON (10) took on harder opposition when fifth at Cranbourne last outing. He was a winner on that track on March 16 and looms as one of the leading chances again. MAGIC LAW (7) is usually competitive against this grade and CHARLIE WALKER (8) is racing well enough to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 2,6,7

SELECTIONS: FLING IT RAINBOW (5), BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (12), BLANCO CANYON (10), CHARLIE WALKER (8)

RATINGS: 5,12/ 8,10/ 7/ 11

SUGGESTED BET: FLING IT RAINBOW (5) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: NEON TIGER (4) settled three back on the markers, obtained a late inside run and finished off fast when a narrow third behind Best Back Bruce at Ballarat last outing. He recorded a mile rate of 1.58.1 when he won on that track three starts ago and looms as one of the leading chances again. INEXORABLE (8) will need luck from the inside of the second line but she is racing in peak form and cannot be discarded. She raced without cover and went down fighting when a close fourth in a strong race won by Miss Ari at Cranbourne on Friday. I OF THE HURRIKANE (6) has been finding the line strongly and is worth thought along with OH NO NEVER AGAIN (9), which ran a big race after galloping early last week.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: NEON TIGER (4), INEXORABLE (8), I OF THE HURRIKANE (6), OH NO NEVER AGAIN (9)

RATINGS: 4/ 8/ 6/ 5,9/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: NEON TIGER (4) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: RIVER PATROL (3) has been down on form recently but he is a short course specialist and is drawn to lead over the 1200m so he gets his chance to improve. BLISSFULL LILLY (10) is racing well enough to score but being drawn on the outside of the front line is a setback. She was runner up behind Northern Terror two starts ago, which is a good enough form line for this event. ALLHEARTNOHEIGHT (5) finished a close up fourth at Shepparton last week and this race is no harder so she is not without a chance. VERY TEMPTING (7) possesses early speed and should be suited to competing over the short trip. SELF EXCLUSION (8) was placed against similar class at Bendigo two starts ago and is capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 7,10

SELECTIONS: RIVER PATROL (3), BLISSFULL LILLY (10), ALLHEARTNOHEIGHT (5), VERY TEMPTING (7)

RATINGS: 3,10/ 5/ 7,8

SUGGESTED BET: RIVER PATROL (3) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: QUATRO MOTH (1) gave the leader a big start and chased hard when a narrow second at his latest second at the Melton trials. He has a lot of ability and is drawn to go close. ROMEO (4) was performing extremely well at the trials prior to taking on tough opposition in the Nutrien Classic, where he was placed in a heat then followed with an unplaced effort in the Final. This is a big drop back in class and he should prove hard to beat. CARAPAZ (5) is a first starter for trainer Matthew Craven, which was placed in fast time at a Terang trial effort and is not without a chance. EYENEEDTHAT (2) won a trial at Maryborough then got into all sorts of bother when unplaced at Mildura on debut. He has ability and is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 4

SELECTIONS: QUATRO MOTH (1), ROMEO (4), CARAPAZ (5), EYENEEDTHAT (2)

RATINGS: 1,4/ 5/ 2/ 3/ 6/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: QUATRO MOTH (1) to win

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: It is a tough race to end the program with several debutantes being engaged. ELLE PERFECTO (4) produced a good performance when second behind Kyvalley Ray at her debut then was in a nice position but was badly checked with a lap remaining last week. She has ability and has the advantage of race experience over most of her rivals so she must be respected. ARGYLE MUSE (6) finished third after gaining the perfect trip on debut then struck bother at her latest sixth. She is worth an investment. HEAVENLY GLOW (1) has had an extensive trial campaign and is perfectly drawn so she must be kept safe. VANCE LANE (3) is a nicely bred colt for trainer Peter Manning that cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 1,2

SELECTIONS: ELLE PERFECTO (4), ARGYLE MUSE (6), HEAVENLY GLOW (1), VANCE LANE (3)

RATINGS: 4/ 1,6/ 3/ 2/ 5/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: ELLE PERFECTO (4) to win
