Melton, Friday 4 April

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: CIGANO (3) was resuming since a fifth in the Protostar when he scored comfortably in a mile of 1.54.7 at Geelong. He is a quality colt and finished fourth in the Final of this series last year so he must be respected. APOLLOSTORM (1) produced a career best performance when he won by nearly thirty metres and recorded a slick mile rate of 1.53.7 at Melton last week. He is perfectly drawn and should give another bold showing. ITS CONFIDENTIAL (7) brilliantly won a heat of the Bathurst Gold Chalice in a super mile rate of 1.51.2 then struck trouble in the Final ($2-50 fav). He has won eight of his eleven starts to date and will go well again but the extreme draw is a disadvantage. IM ALL BUSINESS (2) has been performing well at the trials and is a place chance from his good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3,4,7

SELECTIONS: CIGANO (3), APOLLOSTORM (1), ITS CONFIDENTIAL (7), IM ALL BUSINESS (2)

RATINGS: 1,3/ 7/ 2/ 4/ 5,6

SUGGESTED BET: CIGANO (3) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: ROMEO (2) is a Jayne Davies trained colt, which has been impressive at his past two trial victories. He is perfectly drawn and appears to have a promising future so he is worth following. TREACHEROUS DAN (1) finished a close second at his only trial and has ability so he must be respected from the pole position. KNIGHT FURY DAN (4) won a trial at Ballarat in February and is one of three runners in this race for leading trainer Emma Stewart so he is sure to have plenty of admirers. SHORELINE DREAM (5) qualified in South Australia and has been transferred to the Emma Stewart stable for this series. He has the worst draw out of the major chances but cannot be dismissed.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: ROMEO (2), TREACHEROUS DAN (1), KNIGHT FURY DAN (4), SHORELINE DREAM (5)

RATINGS: 1,2,4/ 5/ 3/ 6

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 1,2,4/ 1,2,4/ 1,2,4,5 (Cost $12)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: THE HIGHLIGHT REEL (2) easily won a heat of the New South Wales Derby then followed with a third in the Final behind his star stable mate Always Hot, where he led early, galloped and ended up being behind the leader at the 1800m. He is clearly the class runner of the field and will take beating. STORMS COLLIDE (4) won a heat of the New South Wales Derby then followed with a tenth in the Final. He enjoyed a very good juvenile season having been placed in six of his seven starts and he looms as the main rival to THE HIGHLIGHT REEL (2). GOLDEN TRIBE (3) is a fast beginner and is racing in peak form so he is a definite place chance. SANCHEZ (6) was runner up in the New South Wales Breeders Challenge last season and competed during the Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival over the past two weeks so he cannot be dismissed.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 3,4,6

SELECTIONS: THE HIGHLIGHT REEL (2), STORMS COLLIDE (4), GOLDEN TRIBE (3), SANCHEZ (6)

RATINGS: 2/ 4/ 3,6/ 5/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 2/ 4/ 3,5,6 (Cost $3)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: CARDIGAN DAN (3) is a first starter for trainer Emma Stewart, which dashed home in a sizzling final quarter of 27.2 seconds to win a trial at Melton. He obviously has ability and should go well on debut. YOU GOTTA BELIEVE (6) has the advantage of race experience and comfortably won a heat of the Bathurst Gold Crown on March 21. He drew poorly and settled in the second half of the field before finishing fast when a creditable fifth in the Final so he must be rated highly. BROOKLYN DAN (4) was able to win a trial at Geelong last week so he must be kept safe. LETSSTARTINHEAVEN (1) won his last trial at Gawler in fast time and is ideally drawn. SIARGO ISLAND (5) charged home from last when third in a Consolation of the Bathurst Gold Crown and is a place chance again.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,4,6

SELECTIONS: CARDIGAN DAN (3), YOU GOTTA BELIEVE (6), BROOKLYN DAN (4), LETSSTARTINHEAVEN (1)

RATINGS: 3/ 4,6/ 1/ 5/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: CARDIGAN DAN (3) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: GALAXY LASS (3) is resuming since a fourth in the Gold Chalice on February 01 but she chased hard in a slick final quarter when second to Golden Shooz at a recent Melton trial effort so she is worth an investment. MY ULTIMATE SASSY (4) progressed forward to find the lead and held off the challenge of Viney when she scored at Geelong last outing. She is working into her peak form and should go well again. BEACH DIAMOND (6) is resuming since a victory in Hobart back in June. She has had two trials in South Australia this year and has been transferred back to trainer Emma Stewart so she warrants respect. WE DEALIN DIAMONDS (2) did well for a close second at her first run since December and is drawn to give another bold showing.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: GALAXY LASS (3), MY ULTIMATE SASSY (4), BEACH DIAMOND (6), WE DEALIN DIAMONDS (2)

RATINGS: 3,4/ 6/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: GALAXY LASS (3) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: IVESEENHEAVENSLIGHT (2) is resuming since winning the Super Series Final in September and she hasn’t been to the trials but she is the class runner of the field and is sure to have plenty of admirers. MY LITTLE BO (1) is resuming since a fifth in the Breeders Crown Final in November but she finished second behind Golden Shooz at a recent Melton trial effort and is drawn to receive every chance so she cannot be left out of calculations. ILL BE GONE (6) has had three wins and two seconds from her five starts to date with her two defeats being in the Sapling Stakes and in the Homegrown Classic Final. She has claims along with LILLY LOTUS (3) and ALIFETIMEFORLIVING (4), which both impressed at their first up victories.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1,5,6

SELECTIONS: IVESEENHEAVENSLIGHT (2), MY LITTLE BO (1), ILL BE GONE (6), ALIFETIMEFORLIVING (4)

RATINGS: 2/ 1,6/ 3,4/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 2/ 1,6/ 1,3,4,6 (Cost $6)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: WILLOWS GIRL (2) easily won a heat of the Bathurst Gold Tiara then followed with a fifth in the Final, where she settled in a rearward position from a poor draw. She is clearly the horse to beat from her good draw. DELIZIOSO (1) is a first starter for trainer Craig Turnbull, which comfortably won a trial at Shepparton last week and is drawn to receive every chance so she is a definite Quinella chance. GO EASY ON ME (6) won softly when on debut at Menangle and was driven aggressively to find the top so she cannot be underestimated. FROLICNEARTHESEA (7) is a first starter for trainer Emma Stewart, which has been performing well at the Gawler trials in South Australia so she must be kept safe.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1,6

SELECTIONS: WILLOWS GIRL (2), DELIZIOSO (1), GO EASY ON ME (6), FROLICNEARTHESEA (7)

RATINGS: 2/ 1,6,7/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 2/ 1,6,7/ 1,6,7 (Cost $6)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: TELERN LOFTY (4) commenced from the inside of the second line and was shuffled back on the markers in the early stages before chasing determinedly for a game second behind Fairplay in a mile rate of 1.55.6 at Kilmore last outing. All of his three efforts since resuming have been sound and he is ready to break through for a win. ATA RANGI (8) finished off well for third behind Luv The Nitelife at Cranbourne on Sunday. He has been placed in seven of his past eight starts and should be finding the line strongly again. SABITA (11) was resuming since December when she led throughout in a mile rate of 1.56.4 at Shepparton. She drops back to the second line now but is worth thought again. CAPITALISM (6) and CATHERINE (12) are both worth thought in an open race.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: TELERN LOFTY (4), ATA RANGI (8), SABITA (11), CAPITALISM (6)

RATINGS: 4/ 8,11/ 6/ 12/ 3/ 5,7,10

SUGGESTED BET: TELERN LOFTY (4) to win

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: PICKLE IT (1) performs best when he is able to lead over the sprint distance and attempted to lead throughout when second at Geelong last week. He is drawn to lead again in this evenly balanced field so he can go one better. BEST BACK BRUCE (11) worked hard early then gained a trail and had no clear run at a finish when an unlucky eighth at Geelong last outing. He won at Cranbourne prior and this race is no harder. OUR TRUE COLOURS (10) was caught wide early before progressing forward to park without cover at the 1100m when a creditable third at Bendigo last week. She is racing well and is worth a ticket each way. MUSELET (2) struck trouble at Geelong last outing and lost all chance. His form prior was sound so he is worth thought along with REALLY SMARTIE (6) and LOLLIPOP (7).

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 4,5,7

SELECTIONS: PICKLE IT (1), BEST BACK BRUCE (11), OUR TRUE COLOURS (10), MUSELET (2)

RATINGS: 1,11/ 10/ 2/ 6,7/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: PICKLE IT (1) each way

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: LORIMERMAJOR (11) used plenty of energy at the start to hold a forward position and ended up being behind the leader when seventh behind Frugal Fare at Melton last week. His form prior was strong and he is dropping back into a more suitable grade now so he is worth an investment. INTERPRETATION (6) is a speedy pacer and finished third behind the smart 3yo Apollostorm in a slick mile rate of 1.53.7 last week so he rates as a value hope. IMA CHARMA (3) is a fast beginner and led throughout to win at Melton when resuming. He followed with a second at Cranbourne last week and should be prominent throughout under these conditions. MONSIEUR FLAMEL (2) is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern and is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: LORIMERMAJOR (11), INTERPRETATION (6), IMA CHARMA (3), MONSIEUR FLAMEL (2)

RATINGS: 11/ 3,6/ 2/ 1,4,12,13

SUGGESTED BET: LORIMERMAJOR (11) each way
