Burnie, Sunday 18 January

Race 1

GOODTIME OSCAR (2) is going for 4 straight victories, and looks to get his chance in another small but even field. DENNY (1) and CAN FEEL THE FURY (3) have been scratchy away from the stand starts of late and will be hoping to start better to make advantage of the good draw. MAJOR DAVVIN (4) gets back to a front row draw and pings the tapes, and looks the likely danger to find the lead, against the (4) getting it his own way in front. ANDAMAN BAY (5) has been racing in stronger races than most of these and will also appreciate getting back to the front row draw, and not starting with a handicap to make up. SAPPHIRE GAMBLER (6) had no clear running at Scottsdale last week and will be hoping for clear running here to get in the finish.

Selections GOODTIME OSCAR (2), ANDAMAN BAY (5), MAJOR DAVVIN (4), SAPPHIRE GAMBLER (6)

Race 2

HEY FRANCO (1) gets the pole draw and gets his chance to get back in the winners circle. He should have enough speed to hold DANCINWIVJOELENE (2) early, who does possess good gate speed and will have a good look for the front. MIKIYOURSOFINE (6) would be a clear favourite if he didn’t draw the awkward back row draw, so would think Hannah stays the pegs and hopes a gap appears late. DAZZLE ME (8) is the most well performed in the race but draws bad accordingly, and will be relying on some good speed early to get into the race. LA PIERRE (6) draws the outside front 1st up from a spell, but looks the only other winning hope.

Selections MIKIYOURSOFINE (6), HEY FRANCO (1), DAZZLE ME (8), DANCINWIVJOELENE (2)

Race 3

TASSIE DAZZLER (1) is yet to win from 46 attempts, but gets the pole draw again where he ran a good race from 4 starts back when 2nd. MY FATAL CHARM (2) and HAMMERING SEAS (3) are the 3yo’s in the race, and will be looking to settle on speed, whilst CHARLI PIPPEN (5) is a 5yo first starter but brings good enough trial form to be competitive here. He drew 1 both those trials, but cops the outside front row draw around the tight circuit, but expect him to be able to handle his local track being off the pegs still. FANCY ANOTHER (6) past 2 runs have been very encouraging and draws to sit behind the early leader, and will be dangerous late if gaps appear, whilst ALBY PRIDDY (4) is going better than form shows but hard from the draw again.

Selections CHARLI PIPPEN (5), FANCY ANOTHER (6),  TASSIE DAZZLER (1), MY FATAL CHARM (2)

Race 4

OUTBACK ROCK (1) gets the important pole draw from the mobile start, however he has broke after the start in both attempts from the front row at this track. If he did behave, he would take some beating, however it’s a fair risk. The logical danger in the field also follows him out in HORRIE OTARA (6), so it could be a nervous first 200m for those backing either of the above two. CINOCAL JAMANE (9) is next best back to a mobile draw however normally prefers a mile distance, and races on Friday at Hobart as well. IM QUITE AMERICAN (7) has placings to his name and gets a nice trailing draw, whilst JUST MIKI (4) has an awkward draw but ran a nice 3rd 2 starts back, a similar performance would have him going close here.

Selections OUTBACK ROCK (1), HORRIE OTARA (6), CINOCAL JAMANE (9), IM QUITE AMERICAN (7)

Race 5

ONLINE MODEL (4) and TWILGHT BEACH (5) are both fast beginners, and whoever leads will take some running down, noting the latter was off 10m last start when they met. STANTON BREAK (1) began safely and didn’t have much room when 2nd at Scottsdale, a good beginning on speed will allow him to get his chance. ALBERIO (6), SMOOTH DEAL (7), RANIERI (8) and NO NUKES SKIPPER (9) are all good beginners and start off the second row, so the couple that get in the best position in the run will get their chance to be in the finish. DONE WELL (2) has galloped out her last 2 stand attempts, but has made good ground in both, she can win if she began with them this time.

Selections TWILIGHT BEACH (5), ONLINE MODEL (4), ALBERIO (6), DONE WELL (2)

Race 6

SNOWIEWILLREV (1) was very good first up from a long break, when he made ground out wide in a slippery fast last half. He began well at the trials from the stand, and with the home track advantage and the big home crowd riding him home, he will take some beating. POWER UP (3) has been slowly away, but running home well of late, a safer beginning would have him on the podium. SETTEBELLO (5) has begun superbly to win his past 2 runs and may be the danger to the (1) not leading. The 10m backmarkers in WAZZA (6) and FLEETWOOD ROCK (7) have won or placed in country cups in past weeks, and will be hoping the front markers might make a mistake. AMBIGUOUS (8) has some strong stand start form when leading but draws out the back, whilst ROCKS ROY (2) ran well 5 days ago when sitting outside the leader.

Selections  SNOWIEWILLREV (1), FLEETWOOD ROCK (7), SETTEBELLO (5), POWER UP (3)

Race 7

A similar field assembles from the Scottsdale Cup a week ago, where HORATIUS SPECULO (5) led them a merry dance and won convincedly at his first attempt from the stand start. Good manners again here would make him take some beating, however if MAEBEE (2) began well and held him out early to the front, then he looks the main danger of beating him. MY WAY (1) gets the nice draw to sit on speed with a pegs run, whilst ZARA TINDALL (7) will be hoping to get a nice run on speed like last start, and looks the one to be finish home well if so. WINDY HANOVER (4) was looming through the field to possibly run into a place, before appearing to not handle the last corner, so could run into a place here at odds. IRON CLAD (6) was disappointing when getting the nice run behind the leader last start and would need to improve to be finishing on the podium here.

Selections  HORATIUS SPECULO (5), MAEBEE (2), MY WAY (1), WINDY HANOVER (4)

Race 8

POST KEG (1) hasn’t been able to get the job done when well favoured in the market his past 2 starts, but looks to get his chance leading here. SUGAR COAT ME (2) is a newcomer to the Charlie Castles stable who has had good success with horses coming from the Riverina in the past. He looked impressive early in his career before his form tapered off the past 6 months. ROYAL CADENCE (6) looks the other logical danger with the nice trailing pegs draw, and will be hoping gaps appear late. JEREMY WELLS (8) is a professional placegetter, whilst LOYOLA TRIOS (9) broke through last start after a few unlucky runs, but will need things to go his way again here from the draw.

Selections POST KEG (1), ROYAL CADENCE (6), SUGAR COAT ME (2), JEREMY WELLS (8)
