Mildura, Thursday 24 October

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: MURRA LANE (7) is a first starter for astute South Australian trainer Jeremy Seal and won his latest trial by a large margin in reasonable time. He is awkwardly drawn but he obviously has ability and will prove hard to beat. MISS MAGIK (6) is resuming since August and hasn’t been to the trials but she has been placed in both of her starts at Mildura previously and strikes a suitable assignment first up. GOODTIME SAILOR (5) trailed the leader early and lost the perfect position when he broke stride thus losing his winning chance at his first up tenth. He has ability when he is able to put it altogether and is worth another chance. BRING MY BLING (1) and SAYCHELLES (3) are both worth thought from their good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 4

SELECTIONS: MURRA LANE (7), MISS MAGIK (6), GOODTIME SAILOR (5), BRING MY BLING (1)

RATINGS: 7/ 6/ 1,3,5/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: MURRA LANE (7) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: CRUZ WITH ROME (10) was driven aggressively to find the lead and only went down narrowly at his Mildura debut. He should have benefited from that run and he strikes a suitable assignment so he is worth an investment. AUCKLAND LASS (4) is likely to push forward from her wide draw and she was runner up under similar conditions at Mildura on September 06 when she raced without cover throughout so she is not without a chance. STEAL SOME TIME (2) possesses gate speed and is likely to find the markers first before taking cover. She is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern so she rates as a value hope. STONEBRIDGE STAR (1) may be shuffled back on the markers from the pole position but he is capable of running into a place.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely early leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: CRUZ WITH ROME (10), AUCKLAND LASS (4), STEAL SOME TIME (2), STONEBRIDGE STAR (1)

RATINGS: 10/ 4/ 1,2/ 6,7/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: CRUZ WITH ROME (10) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: CHEERS POVERTY (3) is working up to a win and gets his chance to break through against this line up. He trailed the leader and finished second behind Surfin At Midnight in a much stronger race at Mildura last outing. RIVERGUM COUNTESS (10) won from a similar poor draw at Mildura on September 27, where she pushed around the field to race without cover. She finished third after adopting a similar tactic last week and looms as one of the leading chances again. OUR BALOU (8) worked hard in fast time when fourth behind Robert Crocka last week and is not without a chance. APACHE WIND (1) and ANOTHER SPARKY (2) both have claims from their good draw over the sprint distance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: CHEERS POVERTY (3), RIVERGUM COUNTESS (10), OUR BALOU (8), ANOTHER SPARKY (2)

RATINGS: 3,10/ 2,8/ 1/ 6

SUGGESTED BET: CHEERS POVERTY (3) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: DANNY RAY (10) worked early then gained a trail and chased hard when second behind Jetter Son at Mildura last week. He has been placed in six of his seven starts to date and deserves to break through for a win. NANNA HELEN (11) has been placed in all of her three starts at Mildura and finished well for third in the race won by Jetter Son last week. She is poorly drawn but is nearing a win. MASON DIXON LINE (6) is a first stater for trainer Aaron Dunn, which shaped up nicely at a recent Terang trial second and must be kept safe. IM LORD TOMMY (5) performed nicely at the trials prior to his first two race track appearances and his latest fourth was in a strong mile rate of 1.56.0 so he must be included amongst the leading chances.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 2

SELECTIONS: DANNY RAY (10), NANNA HELEN (11), MASON DIXON LINE (6), IM LORD TOMMY (5)

RATINGS: 10,11/ 3,6/ 5/ 2,9

SUGGESTED BET: DANNY RAY (10) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: RONZEL SONNY (8) finished off best to win in a mile rate of 1.58.3 at Swan Hill then followed with a close second at Charlton, where he dashed along the sprint lane. He is a speedy type and will be hard to hold out in the run to the finish. ROBERT CROCKA (6) burst across the field to lead from a similar wide draw, took cover and ended up finishing eighth behind Likeable Rogue last week. He is a short course specialist so the drop back in distance is a big advantage and he is worth another chance. WHODAT BOODAT (2) has been racing well in South Australia having won two of her past four starts. She has only been successful once in 17 starts at Mildura previously but she performs best when she is close to the lead so she is drawn to go well. DAYLIGHT (4) is racing better than her form reads and is a minor place possibility.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely early leader), 2,5

SELECTIONS: RONZEL SONNY (8), ROBERT CROCKA (6), WHODAT BOODAT (2), DAYLIGHT (4)

RATINGS: 8/ 6/ 2/ 4,5,7/ field

SUGGESTED BET: RONZEL SONNY (8) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: RONZEL MICKY (1) led throughout to defeat HESASTAR (10) at Mildura on September 06 and is ideally drawn to try and emulate that feat here. HESASTAR (10) is racing well and looms as one of the leading chances again. He has been finding the line strongly and will be suited if there is a genuine tempo in the early stages of the event. HOLZHAUER (9) had little luck in the home straight and should have finished closer when third behind Bus Stop last outing. He is better suited when he is able to utilize his gate speed early but he is racing well enough to figure in the finish. SHALLOW POCKETS (8) didn’t have much luck after being caught wide in the early stages when unplaced at Mildura last time out. He is racing better than his form reads and rates as a value hope.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: RONZEL MICKY (1), HESASTAR (10), HOLZHAUER (9), SHALLOW POCKETS (8)

RATINGS: 1/ 9,10/ 8/ 4/ 2,6

SUGGESTED BET: RONZEL MICKY (1) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: TWISTED BLISS (7) is racing in good form and should prove hard to beat against this line up. She settled three back on the markers in a leader dominated race and charged home late when second behind John McLean last outing. POWERSOFPERSUASION (4) was checked and galloped at the 1800m, settled down in last position and tried to sustain a long run out three horses wide from the 900m when a game fourth at his latest attempt. He won comfortably at Mildura prior and appears to be one of the leading chances again. MY ULTIMATE BILLY (6) hasn’t performed to his best form recently but he appears to be well graded against this field and he has the gate speed to be prominent throughout. CAULONIA TERROR (5) will strip fitter after his first up sixth, where he made late ground and is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 2,3

SELECTIONS: TWISTED BLISS (7), POWERSOFPERSUASION (4), MY ULTIMATE BILLY (6), CAULONIA TERROR (5)

RATINGS: 7/ 4,6/ 2,5/ 1,3

SUGGESTED BET: TWISTED BLISS (7) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: SHES POPPY (2) finished a close second in a heat of the Heidi George Classic in a sizzling mile rate of 1.55.1 before finishing eighth in the Final. This is a decent drop back in class and she should go well. SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (1) began quickly to find the lead and never looked like being beaten at her latest Mildura victory. She is meeting a field of more depth here but she is drawn to lead again so she must be respected. ALLSOPP (7) was driven aggressively to move up on the outside of the leader and produced a strong performance to win over Ronzel Micky last outing. He has the perfect trailing draw behind SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (1) so he must be included amongst the leading chances. SUNSHINE WARRIOR (6) and OZZIE DAYBREAK (9) could both show up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,3,5

SELECTIONS: SHES POPPY (2), SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (1), ALLSOPP (7), SUNSHINE WARRIOR (6)

RATINGS: 1,2/ 6,7/ 9/ 4,10

SUGGESTED BET: SHES POPPY (2) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: JILLIBY TYPHOON (4) is a fast beginner and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. She set up a hectic tempo when fifth behind Kia Ora Beauty in a sizzling mile rate of 1.54.4 last outing so she should go well under these conditions. APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8) has been placed in all of his three starts since resuming and should be competitive again. He finished off fairly well from midfield when third at Globe Derby last outing. SOUTHPAW SLUGGER (11) is not fool proof but he is a talented pacer and will go well if he is on his best behaviour. He has been placed at his past five starts against similar opposition. WILD CARD (10) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and he finished off well for second behind Rimu Valley at his latest attempt so he is worth a ticket each way.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 1,6

SELECTIONS: JILLIBY TYPHOON (4), APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8), SOUTHPAW SLUGGER (11), WILD CARD (10)

RATINGS: 4/ 8/ 10,11/ 1/ 3,5,7

SUGGESTED BET: JILLIBY TYPHOON (4) to win

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: CEE CEE IN AMERICA (7) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and he ran his best race for some time when third behind Another Nien at Charlton at his latest attempt. He is awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line but he should be hitting the line strongly. RIMU VALLEY (11) worked forward from the outside of the front line to find the lead and was too strong in the run to the finish when he scored at Mildura then followed with a fifth at Gawler. He is poorly drawn but should prove hard to beat again. BETTOR BE LIVELY (10) scored at Gawler in a slick mile rate of 1.55.7 on September 20. His form in South Australia is strong and he should go well at his Mildura debut. ONLY ONCE BITTEN (5) is a fast beginner and will take catching if he can find the lead. AVOCA BLUES (8) and SPORTING RAGE (9) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 6

SELECTIONS: CEE CEE IN AMERICA (7), RIMU VALLEY (11), BETTOR BE LIVELY (10), ONLY ONCE BITTEN (5)

RATINGS: 7,11/ 10/ 5,8,9

SUGGESTED BET: CEE CEE IN AMERICA (7) each way
