Racing for the 2025 season is at the midway point and there is fierce competition evolving inthe race for the capturing the titles in some of the respective New South Wales Premierships.
However, even though there are 28 weeks remaining, Bathurst trainer Nathan Turnbull appears to have a stranglehold on the trophy and is not slowing down as he chases his second successive NSW Trainers' Premiership.
Already, Turnbull has notched up 110 winners, a healthy 48 wins clear of his nearest rival KerryAnn Morris with Hunter Valley trainer Darren Elder a further 18 wins behind in third.
The Metropolitan Trainers title is much closer with Jason Grimson (23 wins) having a slender lead over Luke McCarthy who has prepared 19 winners at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
McCarthy is narrowly ahead in the Menangle Drivers Premiership on 26, with Cameron Hart (23) and Jack Callaghan (19) close behind.
But it is the State Drivers title which holds the most interest and after being in the mix for the past decade, Robbie Morris is in the vanguard position to claim the Premiership for the first time.
Currently having 92 wins to his credit, Robbie is six ahead of 17-year-old sensation Jett Turnbull while Will Rixon is well and truly on the pace with 81.
Morris is in his 18th season of race driving and has been prominent amongst the top echelon of reinsmen in New South Wales and along the eastern seaboard of Australia for most of his career and he would love nothing more than to capture the state driver’s title which has been on his bucket list for quite some time.
This year, Morris has chosen to concentrate driving at Tabcorp Park Menangle, Penrith, and Newcastle and it is rare for him not to contest each race on the program at those respective tracks.
“Premierships and milestones are not front-of-mind for me, I just try and drive as many winners as possible at any time, but I have to admit that a State Premiership is certainly something I would love to capture,” said Robbie.
“I have gone close a couple of times, and I have had a handy start to the year.
“Hopefully it can keep going.
“New South Wales is blessed with so many talented reinsmen, any one of ten or more aroundthe state are capable of winning the title with the right opportunities.”
