Role Summary
The purpose of the position is to manage, develop, deliver and grow harness racing across Queensland.
Overseeing Queensland’s harness racing, the Senior Racing Manager role is pivotal in fostering growth and upholding Racing Queensland’s commitment to animal care excellence.
The Opportunity
The full-time permanent position is responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external key stakeholders across the harness racing function to ensure:
- Harness racing operations is managed proactively and aligned with RQ’ Strategic Objectives
- Scope, plan and deliver the harness racing calendar; The harness racing calendar is scoped, planned and delivered;
- Ensure that all handicapping and race scheduling activities are aligned with RQ’s strategic objectives and in accordance with the Racing Act 2002; and
- Provide regular status updates to executive management for the purposes of informing the Board and appropriately managing expectations.
- Managing the operations and growth of the harness code with a view to maximising commercial performance, while being cognisant of community expectations in relation to animal care and welfare.
- Leading the harness racing team in accordance with Racing Queensland (RQ) policies and racing rules while ensuring outcomes contribute to RQ’s strategic and operational objectives.
- Managing, developing and implementing an annual harness racing calendar.
- Developing frameworks for engagement of multiple stakeholders (government, industry and regulatory) including scheduling, briefing and information sharing.
- Developing and implementing strategies and plans to actively manage issues and mitigate risks.
- Managing the harness racing operational budget to ensure time, cost and quality parameters are achieved on every occasion.
- Leading the harness racing operations team to deliver business outcomes.
The Success Profile
- Demonstrated experience leading harness racing operations.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to strategy development, implementing operational plans and establishing frameworks to manage and measure outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and delivering agreed performance measures and targets.
- Identifying and minimising risks to meet governance and compliance requirements.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive an industry-centric service culture.
- Ability to consult, negotiate, communicate and influence outcomes when there are conflicting interests or differences of opinion.
- Exceptional interpersonal agility to manage competing needs of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy when managing conflict.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, work under pressure, show resilience and make effective decisions and recommendations.
- Demonstrated leadership competence to enhance individual and team capability.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the racing and wagering industry, or similar sector is essential.
