After winning first-up from a spell in Hobart on 14 April, the Kristy Butler-trained Cuzzy Bro will be chasing back-to-back wins when he lines up in a no more than two lifetime win pace (2090m) in Hobart on Friday night.

The gelded son of Ultimate Machete had a lovely run in the one-one before being let down three-wide from the 400m to run down one of his main dangers on Friday, Vincenzo, by 1.2m.

“We always knew that he had a lot of ability, but he was a horse that we had always felt would get better with age. And this time in, he kind of has taken the next step in his trackwork and is turning into a racehorse,” said the gelding’s trainer, Kristy Butler.

“He had no idea what it was about last time in. He would let down and finish off like he could at home. It was like he was happy having friends and running beside them.

“He pulled up really good (after his last start) and we can’t be any happier with him. He has probably improved a little bit off his track work. We have just been trying to keep him feeling good and fresh,” the trainer explained.

From barrier two on Friday, the trainer said she wouldn’t be issuing any driving tactics to reinsman Rodney Ashwood.

“He does have plenty of gate speed, but we will leave it up to Rodney to decide what he wants to do,” she said.

Friday’s Hobart card commences with the Tasmanian Horse Transport Pace at 17:46 and can be seen on Sky Racing 2 and TasracingTV.
