The Dubbo Harness Racing Club will conduct its annual Gilgandra Community race meeting on Saturday week, November 27.

This will be the first race meeting since July that the Dubbo Harness Racing Club can welcome back patrons following the most recent Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown which saw the Club lose four of its scheduled race meetings during August and September.

“It is great to be back racing”, said Club President Len Edwards.

“We totally understood why we were unable to race given the severity of the outbreak here in the Dubbo region and we want to thank both participants and patrons for their patience and understanding during a what was a difficult period for our Club”.

“But now we can welcome back those people who are double vaccinated just in time for our biggest race meetings of the year”, Mr Edwards explained.

Four exciting race meetings will be held during the next six weeks, kicking off with the Gilgandra meeting that boasts three feature races.

The Creenaune Family Gilgandra Cup, The Joe Shalhoub Gilgandra Windmill and the Lester & Bev Coffee Memorial will be highlights on a top night of pacing action where a healthy crowd is expected.

The meeting coincides with the first round of Interdominion Heats being held in Sydney at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

“We particularly look forward to welcoming the Gilgandra folk here in Dubbo. This race meeting has always been a highlight on our Calendar and next week’s occasion will be no exception”, said Len.

The Dubbo Club is in for a busy time in December with its three meeting Carnival kicking off on December 10, the Christmas meeting that features Ham Raffles and the appearance of Santa Claus.

That will be followed by the Carnival of Cups where more than $110,000 in prizemoney will be distributed featuring the $30,000 Red Ochre Fillies & Mares Classic.

Finally, the well-attended traditional Boxing Night race meeting will celebrate the lives of Gerard Yeo and Colleen O’Neill with Memorial races to be run in their honour.
