Trainer-driver Brian Portelli will start Alfs Odyssey tonight at Penrith.
Berkshire Park conditioner Brian Portelli has certainly found the key with backing his horses up.
Portelli will race Alfs Odyssey at Penrith tonight following the gelding’s victory at Menangle on Tuesday.
It was Alfs Odyssey’s 100th race start and the well-travelled pacer has now won four races since joining Portelli’s care in August.
Alfs Odyssey’s recent victory gave Portelli a double at that meeting as he also won with his promising two-year-old Smaltese.
The colt won a heat of the Breeders Challenge, following a strong trial display at Menangle just three days prior.
Smaltese ran faster than the Australasian record for his age in that trial when clocking 1:50.2.
Prior to that, Smaltese trialled at Penrith the previous Monday and raced the Thursday before that, making it four track appearances within the fortnight. Smaltese will now head to the Breeders Challenge Semi Final on October 16.
