The NSW Government has introduced restrictions from 4pm today for Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour for the next week including the following restrictions that will impact upon the harness racing industry:

  • Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events;
  • Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed;
  • The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings;
  • Outdoor seated events will be limited to 50% seated capacity;
  • If you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside metropolitan Sydney for non-essential travel.

Consequently, ALL PERSONS attending any harness racing stable, training facility, racecourse or indoor harness racing related workplace within the Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour areas MUST wear a face mask.

Failure to wear a face mask on arrival to a race course will result in refusal of entry.

It is not compulsory for a driver who is competing in a race to wear a face mask when competing, however, on return to the race stalls following each event, the driver must refit the mask at his/her first opportunity.

Any participant with a medical condition or a physical disability which may restrict the ability to wear a mask must wear a scarf or similar face covering. An exemption letter from a medical practitioner must be provided to HRNSW in support of this position.

It will be the responsibility of the individual to bring their own mask to a race meeting. Failure to present with a mask may result in Stewards taking action against the individual under AHRR 238.
