It was a weekend of multiple winners last week with Todd Rattray, Ben Yole, Ricky Duggan, Rohan Hillier, Marc Butler and Gareth Rattray all recording multiple weekend winners.

This Sunday we only have the one race meeting, and that will be staged in Launceston on Sunday night where it looks a strong 10-race card on paper.

The Stars

Todd Rattray – had a weekend out training and driving four winners plus another win in the sulky for an outside trainer as well. Two of his impressive winners were Mozasu who made it back-to-back wins after doing a bit of work early to prove too good and Hillbilly Band who was too quick late for his rivals in the two-year-old event.

Ricky Duggan – was on fire in Hobart with a driving treble and in the process, he became the second driver in the state to register 50 wins this season. He is now one-win behind Rohan Hillier for the state’s drivers title.

Ben Yole – sits 82 wins clear on top of the state trainer’s title after a double at both Launceston and Hobart. The leading trainer also had his first success as a thoroughbred owner on Sunday afternoon in Devonport.

Kardesler – at his seventh Tasmanian start the Juanita McKenzie-trained pacer finally broke through for an overdue win. The American Ideal entire had put the writing on the wall at a number of his previous starts and was well handled on Sunday by Hannah Van Dongen.

Troy Madden – drove his first winner for eight and a half years in Launceston on Friday when Live For Peace proved too tough for his rivals. Although it had been a while between wins for Madden, it should be noted he did have an extended break from the industry before returning when his father Geoff retired.

Trial File

Launceston – Friday evening

Trial One was an Education Trial where Hurricane Kiwi, a two-year-old gelding by Hurricane Kingcole out of the Kotare Kiwi mare Gone Feral sat behind the two-year-old trotter Bullapark Beno, before outsprinting him in the home straight to score by 10.9 metres in 2m 6.2s.

The second trial was a mixed two and three-year-old trial which was taken out by two-year-old Art Major gelding Dan Of Steel, the $50,000 Australian Pacing Gold purchase from last year’s Sydney sale. The Ben Yole-trained pacer settled three-back along the pegs before racing outside the leader for the final 650 metres. Dan Of Steel scored by a neck over Docwillrev, who was a $40,000 APG Melbourne Yearling Sale purchase in 2018, with Indelible 1.8 metres away third in 2m 5.7s.

The final trial was a national rating 47 to 58 event where a field of six faced the starter. Former New South Wales pacer Bonacci settled one-out and two-back and worked home nicely to defeat the leader Williamlee by a half-head with Raging Inferno finishing third after racing outside the leader in a mile rate of 2m 0.1s.

Hobart – Sunday evening

No replays were available of this session due to a communication error. Ninefortwentythree won the first trial in 2m 2.8s, and The Atherlete took out the second trial in 2m 7.4s.

FORMPLUS Black Book

Aunty Bessy

Take your pick on what run of the five-year-old mare you want to note over the weekend. On Friday in Launceston she had terrific gate speed from outside of the front-row to settle behind the leader and winner, Nine Diamonds where she ran that pacer down to a neck over the concluding stages to finish 15.8-metres in front of third placegetter. On Sunday she again caught the eye where she settled one-out and one-back before being carted back to second last by a tiring runner at the 600-metre mark before flashing home out wide for second.

Week Ahead

The Launceston Pacing Club will stage a 10-event card on Sunday commencing at 17:05.

After smashing the clock when second in Hobart last time out, Ryley Major will again have to be at his brilliant best when he lines up off a 30-metre handicap over 2200 metres.

Despite being listed as a mares discretionary, entires and geldings were also able to enter the race under an “Also Eligible” clause on the race conditions and they make up 12 of the final 14 acceptors.

Handicap runners Sea Double Ugrant, Full Speed Ahead, Shelby Bromac, Illegal Immigrant and Call Me Hector are all genuine winning chances and being over the 2200-metre trip they will all need to be on their best behaviour early.

While that race is sure to be an entertaining way to start the quaddie, race six, a rating 70 to 84 event will be also a thrilling contest.

Three-year-old Colby Sanz has drawn barrier two but there is plenty of talented runners engaged in the race including Lockaway Kacie, Buster William, Courageous Katee, Northview Dave, Lip Reader and Taurisi, all of which will be competitive in free-for-all races in this state.

It is a clear indication of the depth in our open class ranks.

It does look to be a tough night on paper so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do the form with Tasracing’s FORMPLUS.

Race One will be televised on Sky Racing 2 with the remainder of the card on Sky Racing 1.

As always, the meeting will be live streamed on TasracingTV.

Some Tasmanian pacers doing battle over the next few days at metropolitan venues include;

Shepparton (Metro meeting) – Saturday night

Race 1 Horse 5 Streitkid,

Race 5 Horse 4 El Jays Mystery.

Menangle – Saturday night

Race 2 Horse 7 No Apachemee.
