Beaconsfield-based harness racing trainer Brent Parish is hoping La Pierre can continue his consistency when he lines up in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprint Lane Pace (1609m) in Hobart on Wednesday afternoon.
This preparation, the Rock N Roll World gelding has had seven starts, with one win in Hobart on 1 February and three minor placings.
In fact, the pacer has been no further back than second in two Hobart starts, which was one of the main reasons the trainer entered the pacer for the National Rating 45 to 49 event.
“It is one of the reasons I have him down there, he seems to go a bit better in Hobart, I’m not sure why it is, but he has finished off well both times down there and hopefully he can on Wednesday,” said Parish.
“He has been a bit more consistent this time in, and I have been able to sort out a few things with his tying-up issues.”
Parish was in the sulky for the pacers most recent win, but he won’t be attending Wednesday’s meeting due to work commitments, with Troy Hillier booked to take the reins.
“Troy (Hillier) was going down with his own horse (Didyalousaroster in race one), and I asked if he minded taking him down, and he said yes, and I told him he may as well drive him, and he does drive well.
“It looks to be an even lot, so hopefully he can get a cart into it over the last lap, and with the right run, I think he can be strong enough,” said Parish.
La Pierre is one of two horses that Parish has in his stable. The other is a two-year-old that he owns with Tyler Bain.
Bain will have his first start as a trainer in Launceston on Sunday night with Can Do Magic in race seven.
Wednesday’s Hobart card is the first of two consecutive midweek meetings, which will be shown on Sky Racing 1, with this week’s meeting set to commence at 14.23.
