As the breeders of the winners of more than $14 million and over 50 $100,000 earners, KTC Bloodstock is unquestionably one of the most successful standardbred nurseries in WA racing and breeding today.

Owned and managed by Kevin and Annette Charles and their son Kody, KTC Bloodstock has claimed the WA Standardbred Breeders’ Association’s Breeder of the Year award in five of the last seven years.

The honour roll of the Hopeland-based establishment reads like a who’s who of harness racing.

The list includes the classics and cup winners Lavra Joe, Wonderful To Fly, Patrickthepiranha, Shock Wave, Lady De La Renta, Water Lou, Double Expresso, Has No Fear, Give Us A Wave, Cabsav, Valedictorian and Belly Up.

KTC Bloodstock is presenting 23 royally bred youngsters – the biggest entry from a single vendor - for the Australian Pacing Gold Perth Yearling Sale at Magic Millions on Sunday, March 1.

Comprising 12 colts and 11 fillies, the consignment features yearlings by 12 individual sires headed up by Captaintreacherous (4 lots), Bettor’s Delight (2), Sweet Lou (2), Always B Miki (2), Downbytheseaside (3), Art Major and Rock N Roll Heaven.

Be Happy Mach, the 2019 2YO Colt of the Year, is represented by three lots from his second commercial crop.

Another feature of the draft is the progeny of a number of top flight racemares. They include the WA Oaks and Golden Nugget winner Libertybelle Midfrew, the Vicbred champion La Machane, the NZ Jewels winner Utmost Delight, the APG 2YO Final victor Leilani Lombo, Generally Outspoken (WA Gold Bracelet) and Tenniele Erin (WA 2YO Sales Classic).

There’s siblings to last season’s outstanding two-year-old filly Wishing Belle, the eight-time Group winner Wonderful To Fly, the standout pacer Lavra Joe, the Vicbred champion La Machane, Momentslikethese (QLD Oaks), the Victorian Group winners La Captain and Glenferrie Blade, Ideal Agent (WA Easter Cup) and Lady Luca (WA Diamond).

The Rock N Roll Heaven colt out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Zara Whitby (Lot 324) is a real standout, according to Annette Charles.

“The three-quarter brother to Lavra Joe (Lot 347) is a big, upstanding colt, the Foreclosure-Panorama Sunshine (Lot 394) colt is a really nice type and the Captaintreacherous-Lady Smack NZ colt (Lot 352) is also a standout,” Annette said.

“A cheap one that could be worth a look is the first lot at the sale (Lot 301), a Be Happy Mach filly out of Ledecky,” Annette said. “Be Happy Mach won 10 of his 11 starts as a two-year-old and Ledecky had plenty of ability but kept going sore.”
