Participants are reminded of an update to the Queensland Handicapping Procedure regarding Field Sizes & Prizemoney.
Races drawn with a field size of less than seven (7) starters to have prizemoney reduced by one tier: (2YO only, 3YO only, Saturday Open including Mares & Trotters Open and most feature races excluded)
Examples below:
- $4,000 race reduced to $3,500;
- $4,600 race reduced to $4,000; (excluding races with a QBRED Bonus eligible horse)
- $6,200 race reduced to $4,600;
- $9,000 race reduced to $6,200;
- $10,500 race reduced to $9,000;
- $14,500 race reduced to $10,500;
- $17,500 race reduced to $14,500; and
- $20,770 race reduced to $17,500;
To allow time for participants to become accustomed or familiar to this procedure Racing Queensland will not fully enforce the above until February 1, 2026.
Once this procedure is enforced it will be applied to any race with a field size of 6 or less, without notice, with the exception of 2YO, 3YO and most feature races.
