Hygain Edge®, a new high-performance race feed that delivers smarter energy through a carefully balanced combination of high fat and controlled starch, has been launched today. Developed in close consultation with Australian trainers and formulated using current equine nutrition science, Hygain Edge® is available to order nationally.

Designed to support horses in pre-training to full work, the feed delivers both fast and sustained energy to meet the demands of race preparation, while supporting digestive health, recovery and condition.

“Oats continue to be the most digestible grain for racehorses. When paired with fat as a clean energy source, we are able to support performance without overloading the digestive system,” Hygain CEO Peter Weaver said. “Hygain Edge reflects what trainers asked for. It offers consistent results, simplifies feeding and horses are finishing every feed.”

Trainers who have been trialling the feed since early 2025 report strong results and noticeable improvements in their horses’ performance and condition. “I’ve been using Hygain Edge® with great results. I have found the product very palatable, the horses look fantastic, they have terrific blood profiles and most importantly have raced successfully,” Robbie Griffiths said.

The formulation includes Bonafide®, a proven Hygain® supplement that supports bone density, as well as a built-in mycotoxin binder that helps protect gut function and skin condition. The feed is apple flavoured and low in fines, appealing to even fussy eaters in full race work.

“Trainers are telling us they can now feed their entire team from a single base product. That improves consistency and cuts down on complexity in the feed room,” Mr Weaver said.

Hygain Edge® is suitable for both thoroughbred and harness horses including young horses in pre-training, sprinters, stayers and horses requiring controlled starch due to tying-up or temperament management.

This release also marks the company’s first move towards more sustainable packaging. Bags are made using 30 percent recycled content with reduced overall plastic use.

Key product features:

  • 13% fat and 27% starch for balanced energy and stamina
  • Oat-based with extruded maize to support digestion and nutrient uptake
  • Bonafide® included for bone support during development and intense training
  • Built-in mycotoxin binder to assist with gut and skin health
  • Apple flavouring to improve palatability and reduce feed wastage
  • Low-fine, textured format to prevent sorting of key nutrients
  • Complete vitamin and mineral profile for recovery, condition and coat health
  • Sustainable packaging made with 30 percent recycled content
