Fresh off driving his 50th winner for the season, reinsman Mitch Ford will be out to continue what is currently his second-best season in the sulky in Hobart on Friday night.
Ford had his first drive in the 2021 season, with his best season total being 71 wins in the 2022 season, which saw him win the overall premiership.
“I’m over the moon, I have had some good support, and have driven some quality horses, and hopefully it continues,” said Ford.
The reinsman will be chasing his 51st season winner in Hobart on Friday night, where he will be kept busy with a drive in all six races. He rates Captain Cheddar in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprintlane Pace (1609m) as one of his better chances on the program.
Captain Cheddar, a three-year-old gelded son of Captaintreacherous, recorded his only win at Wagga in September of 2024 and has been placed in six of 24 starts this season.
“I thought he went well last start when third (to Unmatched in Launceston), and it looks to be a bit weaker race this week. He has got wicked gate speed as well,” said the driver.
Ford also gave a strong chance to Modern Jive, in the night’s final race, The Dynamo 14th November Pace (1609m).
The last two occasions that Ford has driven the pacer have resulted in wins two and three starts ago, with both efforts being in Hobart over the mile.
“Back to the mile, and if he found the lead, or leaders back, he should be hard to beat.”
Friday’s six-race card commences at 17:40 and can be seen on Sky Racing 2.
