SENTIMENTAL favourite Tuivasa is expected to continue his path towards bigger targets when he returns to racing this weekend.

Runner-up during his first two starts, Tuivasa broke his maiden at his third outing with a win in Charlton on April 23.

Given a freshen-up, the Emma Stewart-trained colt is engaged at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

By American Ideal, Tuivasa is from Manwarra Hatrick, which provided Stewart with her first Group One success by capturing the 2007 Vicbred Final at Moonee Valley.

"He is the last foal from Manwarra Hatrick, so he is a bit of a sentimental favourite with me," Stewart said. "Injury kept her to 10 starts for eight wins and a couple of seconds, with one of those wins my first Group One.

"It would be terrific if one day he can match his dam as a Group One winner, but he has a long way to go.

"She's only had three foals, with the only other one to race restricted to three starts for two wins and a second, which was a shame as he had potential."

To be driven by Wayne Hill, Tuivasa has drawn barrier five over 1800 metres.

"He had a good freshen-up after his last run and has come up nicely," Stewart said. "Saturday night looks like a good starting point for this campaign and I'm expecting a good showing from him."
