When you buy quality mares out of quality pedigrees it's a definite recipe for an increased chance of success. And, when they boast the best bloodlines available in both hemispheres, they can rightly be claimed as gilt-edged breeding prospects.
The offering for the online Dr Ed Dewar Estate Sale, being conducted by Australian Pacing Gold from 12pm (AEST) Friday, May 2 until Sunday, May 4, includes two mares representing the most successful maternal families in North America and New Zealand.
They are Lot 6, Wedu Whitby Voodoo (by Betting Line) and Lot 8, Whitbys Blue Iris, a daughter of Art Major.
Both belong to the most highly prized families in the world today, Wedu Whitby Voodoo tracing back to the foundation mare Miss Poole (NZ) and Whitbys Blue Iris being a member of the American family founded by The Old Maid.
Wedu Whitby Voodoo, a lightly raced winner, ranks as a half-sister to the 2021 WA Oaks winner and WA Sales Classic placegetter Benesari Lane ($143,934) and a sister to Rising Spirit (8 wins).
Their dam, Terrifying ($131,200), won 19 races including eight at Gloucester Park and at the stud left three foals for three winners.

Among her successes were the WA Sires Stakes 2YO Final, two heats of the 3YO Sires Stakes and a heat of the Dainty’s Daughter Classic, while she finished runner-up in the Bathurst Gold Tiara and Gold Bracelet.
At the stud Typhoon Whitby produced four winners headed up by the dual Breeders Crown heat winner Bronzwhaler Whitby ($135,652).

Whitbys Blue Iris, who was unraced, is a daughter of the Canadian-bred mare Garden Gate Tina Ca (1:53.2), the winner of 15 races and $146,804.
