Former New South Wales mare Sports Candy will be chasing her third win in the Apple Isle when she lines up in the Tasmanian Horse Transport Pace in Hobart on Sunday evening .

The winner of six races from 38 starts arrived in the Beauty Point stables of Conor Crook in July, where the daughter of Sportswriter has recorded two wins and one second placing in her three starts for the new stable.

“I saw her on the trading ring for sale for $12,000 and had a few owners wanting to buy one, so I purchased her and syndicated her out,” said the mare’s trainer Conor Crook.

“Her runs have been progressively better down here, I thought we might have been in trouble after her first run when she didn’t find the line and fell in over the mile, but she feels like she has got stronger since,” added Crook.

Sports Candy has drawn barrier two on the second-row for Sunday’s assignment, which is a rating 55 to 64 event that is restricted to claiming novice drivers.

“It’s hard to judge junior driver races, but she is definitely a good hope with the right run,” said the trainer.
In-form pacer The Shallows will be chasing his 18th career victory when he lines up in a Discretionary handicap.

This year’s Tasmania Cup winner has had three runs back from a spell with two victories, including the $12,000 Four and Five Year Old Championship in Launceston on 4 July and a free-for-all win in Hobart on 18 July.

The talented pacer finished fifth at his first-up effort on 27 June when starting off a 30-metre handicap, and despite winning two Group races in the past nine months, the gelded son of Shadyshark Hanover comes forward to the 20-metre handicap in Sunday’s 2579-metre event.
Sunday’s 10-race card commences at 17:23 and will be televised on Sky Racing 1 and streamed on TasracingTV.
