New Inquiries –

  • 14 December 2020 – Mr Anthony Mabbott - HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a decision of the NSW District Court regarding the conduct of Mr Mabbott. Mr Mabbott entered a plea of guilty for his involvement where he did Facilitate conduct that corrupts betting outcome of event (Section 193O(1) Crimes Act 1900 NSW). These races were noted as race 1, the EASTERS LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES PACE (1980 metres) conducted at Tamworth on Wednesday 17 April 2013 and race 7, the TLE ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS MUSWELLBROOK CUP (2170 metres) conducted at Muswellbrook on Sunday 21 April 2013.

 

  • 15 December – Mr Peter Hanson - HRNSW Stewards have continued their investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Menthol had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from LETTUCE PRAY following its win in race 1, the TAB PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Young on Tuesday 12 June 2018. The investigation is continuing with further samples to be analysed. 

 

Inquiries Concluded -

  • 16 December - Mr Keith Kenna was fined $5000 of which $2000 was suspended for a period of 2 years. This follows an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) and Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) that Triamcinolone Acetonide had been detected in the post-race blood sample taken from IMPERIALS GEM following its win in race 7, the TAB ODDS & EVENS PACE (1740 metres) conducted at Wagga on Friday 31 July 2020. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

Appeal Decision –

  • 9 December 2020 – Mr Richard Williams appealed the decision of Stewards to suspend his licence for a period of 21 days following a breach of AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving LOVELAINE in Race 2, MULTIQUIP TRANSPORT PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Tamworth on 22 October 2020. By written decision on 9 December 2020, the appeal was dismissed by the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal. (appeal decision at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

  • 9 December 2020 – Mr Dean Atkinson appealed the decision of the HRNSW Licensing Committee to refuse his application for a ‘B’ Grade Trainer’s Licence. This follows a period of disqualification for corruption offences which were issued by the Special Stewards Panel (2012). The appeal was upheld by the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal on 11 December 2020 and Mr Atkinson was found to be a “fit and proper person”.

 

  • 23 December 2020 – Mr Jimmy Brown appealed the decision of Stewards to suspend his licence for a period of 14 days following a breach of AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving KAYBEE STARZZZ in Race 2, VILLAGE JOLT @ LOCHEND STUD PACE (2100 metres) conducted at Young on 27 October 2020. The appeal was dismissed by the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal and Mr Brown was granted leave to withdraw his appeal on the severity of penalty. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

Integrity Information –

  • During the month of October, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained 742 Race day samples.

 

  • HRNSW welcomes Mr C Jasprizza back to the HRNSW Stewards Panel. Mr Jasprizza returns to HRNSW following his position as a Senior Steward with Racing & Wagering Western Australia (RWWA). Mr Jasprizza will commence his employment with HRNSW on Monday 4 January 2021.  

 

  • HRNSW welcomes Mr N Doulman, Mr E Turner to the HRNSW Stewards Panel in the role as Cadet Stewards. Both cadets will commence their employment with HRNSW in early 2021.
