NEW South Wales’ top performed trotters for the season in Drop The Hammer and Tough Monarch will go head-to-head at Melton, Victoria, tonight.

The pair will go around in the Group 1 Australasian Trotting Championship at 9:40pm.

Tough Monarch has returned to Australia from a recent stint in New Zealand and in his last start finished third in the Dominion with Mark Purdon at the reins.

Drop The Hammer has been racing on local soil at Tabcorp Park Menangle and has figured amongst the top two placings in his last four starts.

These results have seen the pacing-bred son of Bettors Delight earn $102,880 in stakes this season and push his overall earnings to $204,005. Meanwhile, at Menangle tonight, the mares will do battle in the Group 3 Sue Kelly Ladyship Pace (1609m).

The Craig Cross-trained Bettor Enforced was supported early after opening as the $1.90 TAB Fixed Odds elect and firming.

Menangle best bet
Race 5: Bettor Enforce (9)

A classy mare that is in top form and should be too strong for her rivals.

Menangle next best

Race 2: Shanway (4)

Good early speed who might be the leader. Chased gamely giving them a start last time and could take catching.
